I think people saying we can't win because our squad is average are being a bit silly. We don't have the best squad, but then it is fairly unusual for the favourites to win an international tournament.

The squad isn't average, there are a decent selection of good players in there. Sadly the majority lack the tactical nous to function in a high pressure knockout situation. In these cases we generally revert to type and come out firing on all cylinders, generally scoring early before gradually dropping deeper as the game wears on and sacrificing possession, leaving the opposition time and space to pick us off.

If you look at our tournament record in the knockout stages we tend to get knocked out by the first good team we face, so I don't see us winning a tournament as anything other than a far-fetched dream, at least until there's some changes in the way football coaching works in this country.
