If there are no more matches, then I can't see it making that much of a difference compared to the usual friendlies. They've given it a different name, but I can't imagine the players caring about it and treating it like a competition.

*That joke is too good for you pond scum in here.

There's no extra games, but each divisions winner does qualify for Euro 2020, so for the small nations these games will be massive.

So they've replaced friendlies with another qualifying round?

Essentially yes.

I think they want the Nations League to be a coveted trophy in its own right, with the Euro qualification an added incentive.

Even if you consider the games as glorified friendlies I'm hoping Wales do well enough to get promoted to League A. I'd rather be watching us play teams like France and Spain more regularly.

That's not quite accurate. The top four ranked sides from each division who haven't already qualified for Euro 2020 will go into a play-off for a spot.

This is right I think, but I think I misread it as there only being one spot. It's very confusing, needlessly so.

My understanding is that there are four spots available from the Nations League - 16 teams who haven't qualified will be split into four groups based on their performance in the Nations League, and each of the four group winners will get a place in Euro 2020. Is that right?

I think each set of 4 teams will go into playoffs to determine Euro qualification rather than another group, although I may be wrong.

There's not many goalies Liverpool didn't put 3 or 4 past in the champions league. Do they have to discount all those goalies too?

Why are Guardian regurgitating this story? Did someone die? Edit: :fp: It was 25 years ago to the day, that's why.

How Alex Ferguson snatched Roy Keane out of Blackburn’s hands

The midfielder became one of Manchester United’s greats but he had almost signed for Kenny Dalglish’s team instead

https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... ter-united

Whatever the reason, I'll never get tired of reading it. This despite the fact I've slightly gone off Keane and warmed to Dalglish.

No one does this to Kenny Dalglish!

What’s with his cheeks? I noticed that at the World Cup, seems to have adult acne or something.

Great signing for Liverpool but as others have said, Klopp won’t be able to play the underdog card as he’s now matching Chelsea, United and City for spending. Time for some trophies at Anfield.

Buzzing with Alisson

Shame Ward is going really, as I think Karius could do with a loan out to get his confidence back, But oh well. We'll just have to do well in the Carbao cup to give him some game time.

I'm still hoping that we get a Coutinho replacement, Especially with the news that Oxalade is going to be out all season :( But our transfer window has been boss, We've also tied down Bobby, Mo and apparently Mané to long term deals too  Secured Brewster too which will be massive.

Pre season game, I know, But Sturridge looks sharp. Has a lovely understanding with Naby already and even Markovic looked half decent, I think Klopp has been working on him and he's going to do a Salah this season and then win the Ballon d'or.
