There's only so much "MOURINHO OUT" before people get bored...

This season in general has been pretty bland, with little to no shocks so far...

Yep, I think last season not really having much excitement didn't help. There was no title race and most people here support big teams that aren't City anyway. The City supporters seem to have disappeared into the ether and not post as much anymore.

I'm pretty sure the World Cup thread was fairly fast paced and popular. If people are invested in it, they post, but the PL has been fairly lousy as a neutral for excitement. Might be better this year if Liverpool can keep the pressure on City and push them to the wire, or even win it.

The other problem is that it's mainly just Liverpool and United. It wasn't as bad when we had a broader range of supporters but a few have drifted off. A forum our size shouldn't have had to split the PL and Football League, but we just don't have the range of football discussion here. A lot of peolople just didn't reply if it wasn't Liverpool or United playing. The FL thread is actually better for the breadth of views on offer and the quality of the posts.

You should all try relegation sometime. You might like it.

That's just the forum as a whole.

Karl put some stats out a while back about how active users and new threads/posts were down.

What else can be done to stamp this out?

This kind of thing reared it's ugly head at Stoke this year with sectarian abuse being leveled at James McClean for not wearing a poppy during remembrance weekend.

We also had a recent local derby (first for 15 years, albeit our under 21s) and a section of the fans were throwing seats and flares onto the pitch before going on to demolish the toilets in the away end.

Thankfully many were caught on CCTV and phone footage uploaded on social media.

Dock the club points and games played behind closed doors is the only way fans will stop it.

I don't see why we can't merge the threads back to be honest. I suggested it this summer when Karl was talking about mega threads breaking the forum (my idea was combined with monthly/bi-monthly thread refreshes) but we just carried on as we were.

Yeah, we probably are better off just having one football thread. The forum is too quiet to justify having both and it might encourage more people to engage with fans of lower league/prem teams.

I also agree that the league and teams have become a bit too predictable now. Like, I’m watching the City v Everton game now and there’s nothing worth posting about because City are comfortably strolling to victory by playing beautiful football. Which they do every week.

Agree. Think we should put it to the vote unless anyone can give a good reason as to not.

I will create a thread over the weekend at some point unless anyone else does in the interim.

Very frustrating game until the goal. Just felt like we were never going to get that goal. Well deserved though. Can now breath for a bit.

Combining them isn’t likely to result in an increase in posting, but will result in snarky “who cares” posts when fans of lower league teams post.

One of Karl and Gecko’s wishes is for people to create more threads, rather than just having megathreads, there’s no real reason not to have two football threads.

I've been enjoying hosting this year's thread, so of course I get less than half a season before there's talk of binning it  :(

That's pretty much how I got treated when I dared to mention something non-EFL related in the Football League thread in a discussion at the start of this season. Whilst not excusing my overreaction (or, indeed, the overly territorial ganging up that happened to me), that argument would not have happened if we'd had one thread. I genuinely think there'd be no problem having one thread, snarky posts are routine forum etiquette issues and I really don't think you'd have any.

I'd actually wager Karl and GG want us to sack off football on the forum altogether and stop bothering them with our threads

I don’t really remember what happened but if you were talking about the Premier League in the Football League thread then it’s no wonder people told you off. It’d be like talking about Mario in a Sonic thread. ;)

I genuinely see no advantage to combining the threads, sometimes we want to talk about our own leagues and not have to wade through Man U v Liverpool boringness.

I just went back and read that page of the thread and didn’t see anyone ganging up on anyone else: the argument seemed to start from Dowbocop posting a picture of a Watford shirt into a discussion about shite kits. MHTL and Moggy told him he was in the wrong thread, Dowbocop told them to get their eyes tested and it escalated from there.

I don’t think anyone was in the right or wrong, or that Dowbocop was double teamed by anybody else, it was just a situation of overreactions all round and nobody came out looking amazing.

For what it’s worth, I still feel like discussion of the lower league should be kept separate. I think it’s better for the forum at this point to have multiple threads. Obviously there are points of common interest but the league’s approach them in different ways and with different perspectives so I don’t think it’s too much of an issue to be honest.
