He’ll make millions from his payout and get Christmas off.

Lucky bastard.

Looks like no long term appointment until the end of the season:

A caretaker-manager will be appointed until the end of the season while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager," United said in a statement.

"The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.

I'm shocked, I didn't think this'd happen for a few months yet. Hopefully the club take their time in appointing Sam Allardyce.

I'd get rid of him now and get a coach in even if it's a caretaker manager until the summer. Give him money to try and get a decent CB in January which is hard admittedly and just say to him we want a brand of football befitting of the players we already have at our disposal, we want none of this lack of emotion sitting on the bench looking grim week in week out.

Fergie coming back....

At least he'd stop you getting relegated.

Can we please have someone who attacks. At this point I don't care if we lose 5-4 every game

He has damaged his reputation quite badly over the last few years in my opinion, it will be interesting to see where he goes next. I'm sure he'll waltz into another high profile gig, maybe back to Madrid, but he doesn't deserve to.

Who would you have that's available?

Even though Utd have been struggling, it's only half way through the season, and he's been your most successful manager since Fergie, and seemed to guarantee silverware each season. I think Utd are looking over the edge of obscurity at the moment and another bad appointment will confirm the club as also rans, similar to the way Liverpool faded in early/mid 90's.

He won trophies in his first season, nothing in his second season, and this third season has been an absolute trainwreck. He peaked too early.

Someone get me Steve Kean's number :capnscotty:

This tweet sums up perfectly the post-Fergie chaos at the club.

Surprised at Woodward having the balls to sack him at this stage but glad that it seems the recruitment process for his replacement will be thorough. Hopefully a technical director/dof will be appointed shortly and we'll identify the right man ready for Summer as well as bringing in the right players.

Honestly I'm not expecting a huge upturn in form, don't think the team is capable of it, changing the manager isn't suddenly going to make our defenders competent or give Lukaku the first touch of a professional footballer but we shall see. No place to hide for them now, guys like Pogba who have attributed their poor form to Mourinho need to prove now that it was down to him and show what they're capable of. Hopefully we will be able to at least provide some entertainment and have some hope going into next season.

Carrick taking over temporarily but the suggestion on Talksport was that it's only until we appoint an interrim manager and that said manager won't be somebody internal (which is disappointing because I'd have gone for Nicky Butt until the end of the season). The suggestion has been that it will be a Hiddink-esque figure but I wonder who that could be for us.

Can't see either Conte or Zidane taking it on a caretaker basis unless there's the promise of the job long-term. Maybe someone like Blanc or Jardmin might be tempted as they're less likely to get an offer at a club our size. Maybe it'll be Big Sam to help stave off relegation

Personally I don't harbour the same dislike towards Mourinho that a lot of people seem to, he won us two trophies in his first season, brought back some hope and optimism and last season finished 2nd in the league and runners up in the FA Cup. This season things have gone very sour but he deserves more respect for what he did actually achieve.

Also, badly timed Instagram post from Pogba, possibly a previously scheduled post but one which has now been deleted. If it's a reaction to Mourinho losing his job then it's extremely unprofessional.
