It really would, absolutely anything could happen

Laurent Blanc is being mentioned a lot, but is it not a bit disrespectful to a manager who has a good record to be talking about getting him for a 6 month role, unless they know he would be happy with that or they've got him lined up to be the DOF.

Telegraph are going with Ole.

I think in Blanc's case he's a manager who despite a good record has been out of work for 2 years, likely has no other job offers on the horizon and has the opportunity to take over a club which, despite recent form, remains one of the biggest in the world. It'd be a great addition to his CV as a manager regardless of what happens and probably elevate him into talks for other jobs.

Seen Ole suggested a lot and he seems to be second favourite with the bookies. It'd be a weird one because he's still got a job at Molde, would he give that up for the sake of a 6 month stint at United? Again though, could elevate his career even if he doesn't stay and put him in line for other, better jobs. The Norwegian season has also finished and doesn't start till March, maybe some sort of weird managerial loan? Can't see it though. I know he flopped at Cardiff but I'd love to see Ole at United, he gets the club and he wants to play football the right way, he also managed Pogba and Lingard when he was involved in our youth system so he knows what they're about (and they know and respect him). Ultimately, the season is a write off - top four looks out of the question, CL looks an impossible ask - best we can hope for is a decent FA Cup run. As long as the new manager restores some enjoyment for the players and fans then anything else is a bonus.

The writing was on the wall. He's not getting anywhere near enough out of the players. He's a very negative, divisive character and he hasn't moved with the times.

It'll be interesting to see how the players respond now it's clear quite a few of them downed tools very early in the season and were just waiting for Jose to get the boot.

I think Pogba may need to go his heart doesn't seem in it. Maybe a new manager can ressurect the Pogba we thought we were buying not the social media clown we ended up with. I can see him gone by the summer though.

Not buying into this anti-Pogba agenda anymore. I was very guilty of it in the past, but I don't see any evidence that he's a "social media clown" at all - can anyone point out where he's done anything stupid on social media? I remember I saw him being criticised for having his picture taken with Messi, is that not allowed these days? :fp: He dyes his hair, oh no stop the presses!

He's a mercurial footballer with undoubted ability, he just needs a better man manager to get the best out of him.

I wanted it to work with Mourinho, so disappointed how it has turned out. But he never really changed or adapted. I hope he takes time out from football for a year rather than going straight to another job like Madrid.

Caretaker manager till end of season is probably best approach if the board are serious about talking to managers who are currently appointed.

Pogba needs to go too. Get a big fee for him and rebuild. Good player but comes with too many issues.

The managers I would want are obviously Potch would be the biggest contender. But I doubt we’d be able to get him. Zidane, Jardim and Conte would be three other contenders. I like the job that Favre has done with Dortmund. If we talking English I rather have a look at Howe rather than all this talk of Southgate. Allegri could end up leaving Juve in the summer.

The number one priority for now until the end of season is get a DOF in. I don’t care if the caretaker manager does well unless he does a Di Matteo then he is deserving of the permanent position. Follow the Chelsea model where they appointed Grant, Benitez and Hiddink but not rushed out to give them the job even though two of them won trophies and one of them was a penalty kick away from winning the European cup.

Sack one grumpy and prickly defensive coach for another? No thanks.

I called off his players' names as they came marching up the steps behind him....All nice guys. They'll finish last. Nice guys. Finish last.

Looks like it is Ole with Phelan as his assistant. Would have opted for Blanc as caretaker.

I just think he picks his moments poorly, that video he posted of him and Lingard dancing around the day before the Liverpool game is the kind of thing that would be fine by me if we were at the top but when you're languishing in 6th you should be laying low.

He has bundles of ability but he's very undisciplined - hopefully whoever takes charge can get the best out of him. I don't think he'd be sold by the club as he's our most marketable asset so I would expect him to be central to the rebuilding of the club.

By all accounts Solskjaer looks to be favourite now and Mike Phelan is likely to return alongside him - a Fergie influenced move no doubt. Still have concerns over it, Solskjaer's done well across two spells with Molde but his time at Cardiff was hugely unsuccessful - still, as a club legend he'll have everybody's support and I think Phelan coming back with him could be crucial, he and Meulensteen should never have been allowed to leave in the first place - the Moyes era could have been different if he hadn't been so insistent in getting rid of those two.

I wouldn't want Conte.
I'm happy with Ole and Phelan for the rest of the season.

For next - not sure but I've always thought Eddie Howe could do well at ours.

Poch would be great but I can't see it happening.

If Ed is still in charge i think you'll get ZZ in. All about that commercial clout.

I honestly don't know who you could get in though. The whole team needs an overhaul, I can't think of any player Jose has brought in that is a " Man Utd player "

Bailly, Dalot and Fred could all become great players given a chance, which they've got now that Jose isn't keeping them in his dungeon beneath Carrington.

Paul Ince was on the radio earlier suggesting both Bruce and Hughes. And people wonder why he can't get a job in management.

From a Liverpool point of view, I’d hate it if you got Pochettino. Make of that what you will.
