Fred should offer us something different in midfield. Shame Dalot is injured as I would have liked to see him start the season especially as our so called captain came in overweight.
Do you not feel like some of these players are held back at least in part by Jose's approach and game plans?
Pogba and Martial definitely. I’d give Sanchez another few months as he didn’t really do much last season.
But there’s also not a lot you can do when Young and Valencia are your main source of width. Pep had old aging fullbacks in his first season and he binned all four. If you have a player like Lukaku then you need good width. At times we looked most dangerous when Lukaku decided to go on the right wing.
Jose probably likes Valencia and Young because they try hard. But I’m sure 10 years ago Jose would have dumped them. He seems to have gotten more negative with each season as a manager. He is capable of setting his teams to play good football. Chelsea in his first spell, Inter and Real Madrid in his second season were all good teams to watch. But the Madrid job seems to have ruined him. Even in his second spell at Chelsea they had a good six months in the year they won the league and then for some reason he resorted to being negative again.
Then you have Smalling and Jones. One of them can’t pass and the other can’t tackle.
The squads not perfect but it’s definitely a team that should be in the top four minimum.
I don’t know if Jose was asking for too many old players or the board wanted him to get more out of the current players. Still feel we should have signed a right winger because we don’t have one in the squad.
