Lotus wrote:Putting myself at risk of being banned from the thread here, but is it time to just have one thread for all football talk, regardless of which league? It doesn't feel like we have enough traffic in either thread to warrant them being separate anymore. The Football Thread last season was pretty dead compared to previous years.

I've been saying this for years.

Splitting made sense back in the day because the original thread got a little bit dominated by United/Liverpool chat as we had loads of those fans posting. The last few years though have seen almost no posts in the other thread and a significant decline in PL posting. When I ran this thread a couple of years ago it felt very artificial to "exclude" certain football fans just because their team was in a certain league, and quite frankly I didn't want to.

I know I upset a load of people in the EFL thread a few years ago when Brentford released a brown kit. I said Watford's kit was worse but got told that because Watford were a PL team I couldn't bring them up. I got a bit drunkenly pedantic about league football vs the EFL (although I've just looked over it again and I wasn't wrong in what I said :slol: ) and things escalated. It was completely unnecessary on all sides - and the fact that Brentford are now an established PL side and Watford aren't just goes to show how silly the whole argument and territoriality of it was!

Plus you all put your season reviews in our thread anyway so just come back over

I don't have an issue with that at all, we're all one big football family

This is what Zeus must have felt like when he opened up Mount Olympus to the mortals of ancient Greece.

I too advocate the #onefootballthread approach (again)

One football thread = great idea.

I agree. Time to archive the football league thread?

It was such a good idea by Lotus. I'm surprised that nobody suggested it before...

It made sense 7 years ago. Football League chat was overwhelmed by the plastic Man U and 'Pool fans.

The forum is quieter now, so it makes sense to just have one thread.

I think should we have 3 threads, and create one for non league. The SCEFL is really heating up for the coming season.

Faversham have reportedly tried to sign Akinfenwa and have even paid a transfer fee to Sheppey.

Apart from Puppetboy we haven't had any EFL fans'/thread users' opinions, so we shouldn't jump the gun! I think the majority of this thread would be very happy to join together but the EFL thread is theirs!

Sorry, got distracted and a load of EFL fans have given their opinions  :fp:

I think we are all happy as long as we can ban Crisp from this thread as well.

Disgusting, Peter Crisp finally makes it to the top table only for everyone else to be admitted straight after

I'm in favour but the decline in activity in thread is due to most of the active members chatting footy in the WhatsApp

If it's killing the forum maybe we need to close the football WhatsApp then :capnscotty:

Just noticed England are playing Malta on Channel 4. Currently 3-0 to England. Zero atmosphere.

I knew nothing about it. Was this advertised or promoted much?

No one knows, no one cares.

I’ve cracked open a beer for this. Feel like I’ve now wasted a beer, tbh. More atmosphere in a morgue.
