The Game Awards 2018The Game Awards ceremony run by Geoff Keighley takes place on Thursday 6th December. The nominations for this year's game awards have been revealed and what's good is that it features very recent releases such as Tetris Effect and Red Dead Redemption 2. Interestingly No Man's Sky, first released two years ago, is nominated in the ongoing game category. And Keighley is trying to support the many aspects of gaming with awards for VR games, student and indie games, a creator award and eSports awards. There should also be some game reveals - my wish would be to see a trailer for Bethesda's Starfield.
Nominees and winners The show starts at 1:30am (!) GMT Friday morning. Broadcast in 4k on
YouTube. The stream will also be available via multiple other services including
Twitter, Facebook Live, Steam, Xbox Live, Mixer, MLG and Gamespot.

Ok, one: The strawberry float is Celeste even doing there.
Two: How can A Way Out even be considered for anything other than Biggest Pile of Flaming Garbage.
Also, Best eSports Coach LOL

At this point, my personal choices for GOTY are:
Night in the Woods (Switch) - This really got me; a wonderfully meloncholy - and yet inspiring - tale.
OnRush (PS4) - "...exciting, moreish and downright rambunctious!"
Pro Evolution Soccer PES 2019 (PS4) - Still beautiful.

Christ, those nominations really highlight how strawberry floating boring this year has been for me other than Monster Hunter World/Generation Ultimate and the two Yakuza games.

Of those on the GotY list, Spider-Man is by far the most deserving winner.

I would vote Spider-Man but it’s fantastic to see Celeste getting recognition, it’s an amazing game!

I dunno, being the best game on offer?
Okay probably not: as a Nintendonly gamer it's the only one I've played and I'm not going to claim it's better than The Game That Broke A Thousand Developers. But it slotted into my Games Of All Time list at Number 11. It's damn good and I'm chuffed to see it in for consideration.
Can I put in a negative vote for everyone for all the eSports awards?

What the strawberry floating strawberry float is this pile of utter dog shite doing in there. Just don't get the appeal at all. I also swore very loudly in the car today when I heard about the eSport awards from last night, and that utter bell end with his "it's a joke" announcement. Sums up the lot of them right there. Twats. [/dannydyer]

Just do everyone a favour and vote for Evo and SonicFox for beating Go1 after he summoned Shenron twice in grandfinals.

I'm from the Amiga generation so perhaps that's why eSports are not such a big draw to me, however I can see that for many they are massive. As the amount of people watching streamers grow, so will the amount of people wanting to watch competitive gaming. Look at this stadium filled with people for the League of Legends final.

I'll probably just watch the trailers that come out of this, not really interested in the awards show.

Put my vote in for Forza Horizon 4 for the two awards its been nominated in. Haven't played any other game in any of those categories other than Starlink and Sea of Thieves. SoT has absolutely no chance of winning, and while Starlink is a great game it also has no chance. Might hit up a vote for both anyway just to show support.

Yeah, I'm very aware of how much it's taken off in recent years, I just don't understand how watching someone screaming into a microphone is more enjoyable than playing the game yourself.
I'm maybe being unfair by lumping the people who take part in these competitions in with the personalities who represent it and the general streamer community, but, strawberry float me, I just wish they'd dial it back a notch.
Anyway, a different discussion for a different thread. Back to game awards chat.
Monster Hunter World to win everything please.

This is the worst post I've ever seen on this forum and I'm including the politics thread
Celeste is a modern masterpiece and deserving of every award its in the running for. It's one of the best platformers I've ever played, and not only does it control perfectly with depth and nuance, its story and themes tie in so perfectly to the gameplay in a way that makes it genuine art. I'm not even being hyperbolic.
A Way Out is an incredibly endearing game and wonderfully unique. It's a genre-defying celebration of videogames that offers constant variety but is consistently entertaining, and the ending is one of my favourites in any game ever.
At least we share a disdain of the eSports awards

I continue to be utterly baffled by eSports. That opening ceremony video is unreal.
Regarding TGAs, they may as well just announce RDR2 as the winner in every category it's in. On a completely unrelated note, did they end up adding the 'Most Crushing Working Conditions' award? I know R* were campaigning hard for its inclusion.
I love me some games, but I sure do strawberry floating hate gamer culture.
