Amazon are making a console, do you care?

Amazon is probably making a game console, and today we've got a better idea of what that console's controller looks like thanks to Dave Zatz and the Brazilian FCC. The standards are all there: two offset, concave analog sticks, four buttons (A/B/X/Y) on the right front, a d-pad in the lower left, and triggers/shoulder buttons around back/up top. What's weird about this particular controller, however, are the other buttons. A slew of media controls sit at the bottom (play, fast-forward, rewind), and in the middle there are four buttons: Home, Back, Menu ... wait a minute! These are Android buttons! Either Amazon's building a controller for Android or the console it's making is Android-based (we're guessing the latter). Head below for more!

I'm not sure what Amazon can bring to gaming beyond a low cost box. Is that enough to get people interested?

it will probably be an amazon thing linked to the kindle fire OS . They will then end up saying that if you have amazon prime you get loads of apps for free or discounted. I'm not bothered though i would never use one as it would just be another console in a closed of environment.

Amazon's version of Ouya with android games and film rentals. That's it.

What if the controller IS the console?

If Amazon have tried to pack in as much power as is technically possible into such a small form factor it could be interesting but I'm not holding my breath.

Reminds me of the Onlive controller (with the button strip at the bottom). Might be a similar streaming service, incorporating tech they have from LoveFilm.

In other news, Amazon Prime is going up to £160 per year.

I think it might go beyond just being an Amazon branded Ouya running Kindle Fire OS. After all Amazon have already bought up one Games developer and I wouldn't be surprised to see them either acquire more or bring in more staff.
Though it almost certainly will be for mostly exclusive titles. I doubt we'll see it running Battlefield or COD alongside the other consoles.

Looks like an Amazon Basic version of an Xbox controller.

The majority of android gaming doesn't really do anything for me. Snobby of me, but I can't get excited about the vast majority of stuff on Play Store.

To be fair, I'd care a lot more about Android gaming if it comes with a proper controller.

The sticks remind me of a cheapo bluetooth controller for android/ios phones. Looks about as comfortable as a brick. I really hope for their sake that's not the final design.

That will almost certainly be a prototype or dev kit pad rather than the final version.

The Play/Pause, Fast Forward and Rewind buttons seem kind of pointless though if they're just for use in video playback when you've got more than enough buttons/triggers to do those jobs perfectly well like the PlayStation and Xbox pads. If they can be used in games however then that could be a different story altogether, perhaps bringing some kind of Prince of Persia style time manipulation into the mix.
