Bloke was clearly in the wrong job - if he just wanted to rewrite other people's work he should have gotten into news (or presumably been at the news desk of IGN).

If you need to plagiarise something you are physically able to perform and/or experience yourself, it seems to me far more likely rather than outright laziness it's because you're either an incapable writer in that field, or at the very least believe that you are. He blagged it for as long as possible, and he should have held his hands up to it once the game was up. 'I got my dream job but I can't write this stuff for gooseberry fool.'
