He's now released an insincere "IF I offended you" apology video which he's monetised.

Such a banana split.

Turns out this wasn't the first time he had the word on his lips...

Other than for arsehole Nazi and Nazi apologists it is not even a freedom of speech issue. No company is forced under freedom of speech to allow racist language on their servers.

Not going to waste my time watching or reading his reply to all this, but it sounds like the usual "sorry for being caught saying it without actually properly apologising for using the word" non-apology whenever an edgy white person is caught publicly saying it?

It is exactly that. No mention of previous racist outbursts, no actual acknowledgement of it being racist (he doesn't mention anything to do with racism) and his apology is a straight up "Sorry if I offended." No actual apology for saying the word, or recognition of what it actually meant, for someone with his reach to be saying that.

It's a nothing response.

It’s so infuriating how celebrities and politicians are unable to apologise properly. It’s never “I apologise for my language” it’s always “I apologise if you were offended by my language” which is a completely different thing.

While I really don't want it to look like I'm going to bat for this banana split, I think we should still accurately represent what's in the video. He does indeed act a total strawberry floating coward by failing to call out his own racism as racism, but it's not like he didn't apologise for what he said, acknowledge he's done stuff like this in the past that he should have learned from, or admit that someone with his reach should know better. I know your post is centred around him specifically talking about the racism and racist implications of these points, but it could seem like you're saying he doesn't touch on them at all, which would be misleading.

I'm pretty sure I didn't see any ads on it when I watched it yesterday and I don't see any ads on it today.

In this case, it's both. He says:

"I'm disappointed in myself, because it seems like I've learned nothing from all these past controversies. And it's not that I think I can say or do whatever I want and get away with it. That's not it at all. I'm just an idiot. But that doesn't make what I said or how I said it okay... It was not okay."

Then

"I'm really sorry if I offended, hurt, or disappointed anyone with all of this. Being in the position I am, I should know better. I know I can't keep messing up like this. And I owe it to my audience and myself to do better than this, because I know I'm better than this. I really want to improve myself and better myself, not just for me, but for anyone that looks up to me, or anyone that's influenced by me. That's how I want to move forward, away from this"

There's also probably a discussion to be had around whether:
"I'm sorry if I offended you"
"I'm sorry if I offended anyone"
"I'm sorry I offended you"
"I'm sorry for offending you"
"I'm sorry you were offended"
"I'm sorry if you were offended"

are all the same, because I feel like they aren't. I'd parse some of them as "I'm sorry you feel this way" where others are "I'm sorry for making you feel this way", but that might be just because I'm looking too hard at it.

This video would have been more fitting if it was released like 10 minutes after the livestream. But after 2 days of time to reflect, to not even take the opportunity to explain to the less-informed of his (as he admits) impressionable audience why this gooseberry fool is not ok? Utter strawberry floating garbage effort, and as the comments on the video show, irresponsible and reckless.

I just saw that Firewatch is being review bombed on steam. It's to do with this PewDiePew stuff?

Urgh. People would rather defend a strawberry floating racist imbecile than perhaps admit an entertainer they like might just have a wee problem with racially charged words.

My dad does this when he's been an obvious banana split. Last time it was "I'm sorry you are upset". Which basically makes it your fault to be upset or offended, instead of any ownership of wrongdoing. It's really pathetic and something dishonest people do.
