I enjoyed episode 4, though May digging up the field and bringing in all that equipment felt like another 'budgetary excess' moment.

And as for the dog eating Clarkson's car...

That challenge had potential to be really good, but they ruined it with the scripted May 'jokes'.

I've recently been re-watching some of the older cheap car challenges and they are so much more fun than anything in this show.
Just give them money to buy a crap car and see how they get on. If it's a complete failure and not at all entertaining then it's only cost a minuscule portion of the Amazon budget so scrap it and go back to the scripted nonsense.

Also, the good car challenges from Top Gear started off with them each having a normal car and turning it into something else. This challenge just had all three with the same base car and it was already converted.
Had they been given a budget and told to buy a 4x4 then it would have been much more interesting.

Jeremy Clarkson’s new motoring show has become the most illegally downloaded television programme in history, figures suggest.

Amazon paid a reported $160m (£130m) for three series of The Grand Tour, which stars former Top Gear presenters Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, after Clarkson was sacked by the BBC in March 2015.

But figures from Muso, data analysts of the piracy market, suggest unprecedented numbers of people are avoiding paying £79 a year to sign up for Amazon’s online streaming service, Amazon Prime, and instead downloading the show illegally.

The data, shared with the Mail on Sunday, suggests the first episode was downloaded illegally 7.9m times, the second 6.4m times and the third 4.6m times. British viewers made up the largest percentage (13.7%) of the total number of illegal downloads.

So is that the law of diminishing returns because people are going "Damn, I've got to sign up to Prime and watch this in 4K!" or "This is crap, I'm not illegally downloading this any more..."

See I'm of the mind that the majority of people illegally downloading this (and other stuff) would never actually pay for it no matter how cheap it was to legally watch and so illegal downloads shouldn't count as lost revenue.

Amazon's profits aren't going to be noticeably affected by this.

Yep, I imagine most who pirate it will just be people who are curious but not that bothered if they can't get it via dodgy means and wouldn't have paid for it.

Latest episode is good, battleships is really funny, like proper top gear but supped up with more budget, that's the sort of thing they need to aim for in terms of sketch things.

I didn't think too much of the latest episode. The weighing scene could have been good for a quick joke but they spent far too long on it. Battleships had potential but they lost me right at the start when it was obviously scripted. I quite liked the final race except for the stupid Hammond is stupid joke. I just feel that their acting and jokes completely miss the vast majority of the time, and they haven't been natural at all in this show. It's all so fake.

Latest episode was great (apart from that celebrity bollocks). I'd love to play that version of battleships.

Latest episode was really good. Loved the Le Mans film, that's the sort of thing this series has been missing so far.

A very average episode was turned great by that wonderful Ford/Ferrari/Le Mans film. James May is so good at presenting historical films like that.

If it's hot in Namibia, will Hammond have an ice cream to cool down?
