PostThe GRCade Football Manager Challenge: Bottom At Christmas
by Dark Ritual » Tue Dec 13, 2011 6:25 pm

So, I finally got around to it! The first ever GRCade FM Challenge. To put it succinctly, this is a points-based challenge in which anyone is eligible to enter, if they've got a copy of FM12. The aim is to have the best season from a particular save file in comparison to other plays. So what's the challenge?

Bottom At Christmas.

So. It's Christmas Day and the present under your tree is...

Swansea City.

Image

Rocked to the bottom of the table, you take over with just one day until the traditional boxing day clash- and 21 remaining fixtures until the end of the season to try and survive- as we all know, only one team has ever been bottom at Christmas and survived. Morale is down, fans are restless and time is short- can you survive the drop?

Rules

You must use the save provided.
You cannot add leagues to the game.
No save-game or real-time editing of the save.
Your save must end on the 31st of May.
Once you have posted screenshots for an attempt, you may not make another.

Points

Scoring Chart
100 points for surviving relegation.
+30 points for every position gained. (30 for 19th, 60 for 18th, 90 for 17th etc.)
50 points for winning a domestic cup.
25 points for finishing runner up in a domestic cup.
15 points for scoring more than 55 league goals.
15 points for conceding less than 60 league goals.
10 points for scoring 5 goals or more in a single competitive fixture.
10 points for Domestic Semi-Final.
2 points for Domestic Cup Quarter-Final.
-10 points for every 5 goals conceded in a single competitive fixture.
-15 points for scoring less than 40 league goals.
-15 points for conceding more than 75 league goals.
-20 points if you spend more than £8 million on transfers.

Posting Your Score

1) You will need to PM me an upload of your Save Game file. (I will PM mine to any member who requests it, if they wish to check mine.)
2) Please provide in the thread, Screenshots of:

-The Final League Table
-Your Fixture list from 25th Dec-5th May
-Transfers In and Out
-Squad Screen, set to "Selection Info."

The Challenge ends on January 1st, 1:00AM. All scores + saves must be sent by then!

Anything I've missed let me know. And the save is here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?asvqq161w9gxou2

Please post to let me know you're taking part and periodic updates are welcome to keep the thread alive- although I imagine most of us will chat in the usual FM thread!

SHould be a case of downloading it, then sticking it somewhere along the lines of Documents > Sports Interactive > FM12 > Games

Yep, it's done. First thing I've got to do is pick the team up in a team meeting

Judging by the fixtures an instant impact is required. Think I can get 5 points from the first three games even though they are away from home.

Then I looked at the squad :fp:

Looks like a lot of players will have to be bought. Thinking of playing a narrow 4-1-2-1-2 as apart from Routledge the wingers are pants (no Sinclair :fp: ).

Only managed five points from the first three games, got two players in on loan so far, Vorm's got two man of the match performances so far. :shifty:

This!

Didn't realise Sinclair was gone, and the squad is very limited.

Managed four games so far and if I recall won 1 and drew 3. I'll add all my screens for each game/signings tomorrow!

strawberry float sake. Just demolished Tottenham and lost 2-0. Gomes got Man of the Match and they scored two bloody fluke long range shots.

3 games in.

Lost to Wigan 2-0.

Drew with QPR 4-4.

Beat Blackburn 4-1.

At least I'm starting to get some goals out of the team.

Trying to farm out some of the crud from the squad to get some loan signings in. There is so little quality left, it's hard!

Signings so far

Jordan Spence (£1.7 million)
John Fleck (loan)

Doesn't help the wages are strawberry floated. So the £4 million I've had has been restructured on a higher wage budget.

Have brought in a couple of signings though;

David Jones from Wigan for £700,000 - he's a good CM that works well with the rest of the squad.
A striker from Motherwell from £1.3 million (can't remember his name) but the scouts, coaches and press were going ape gooseberry fool over him so hopefully he can bang in the goals while Danny Grahame recovers from Shin Splints.

Did have Wolves put in an offer of £1.5million for Scott Dobbie but rejected it, kind of regretting that now, might offer him out for some extra cash.
