Just thinking about it what I don't get is people voting for either Microsoft or Sony as the publisher of the year.

This year EA have published...Skate 2, Henry Hatsworth, The Sims 3, GST, FNR4, TW 10, Beatles RB, NfS Shift, Dead Space Extraction, Fifa 10, Brutal Legend, Dragon Age and LEGO Rock Band. Among numerous others, I don't see how anyone could beat them.

Overall Game of the Year: Halo Wars

This was a tough call. I've not played a huge amount of games this year, as it's been very hectic. However, something about this really grabbed me. When it came out, the RTS crowd hated it for being too restrictive and too easy, and the Halo Crowd often just hated the deviation in the genre. I, however, loved it. My knowledge of the Halo universe meant I had instinctive grasp of the relative strengths of each unit, which I always find a major stumbling block when new to a RTS, and the limited base locations and base slots many thought made the game primitive and constrained, but for me gave every map a tactical edge where victories could be snatched from defeat with a bit of clever, tactical assaults on key locations. My measure of a good game has always been how easily I lose myself in it, or, to put it another way, how frequently it suddenly seems to be 3am. Well, upon release of Halo Wars, it all of a sudden seemed to be April.

Best Puzzle Game: Plants Vs Zombies

According to my barometer of how rapidly a game ushers in the dawn, PvS sets a standard. It has everything a game like it should have; well balanced gameplay, varied but tight content and, vitally, that often over-looked aspect; charm. In a modern market where 'Is your game gooseberry fool? Add Zombies' is becoming a management mantra, to see a game use them in a way that seems fresh and clever is brilliant. From the 'Help' section of the game (I won't spoil it, but to anyone who's bought the game already, try reading the help section. It won't take long), to the soundtrack to the visual style, everything about the game suggests that zombies were not an afterthought or a cash-in, but the only way the game could have possibly been realised. Ace.

Best RPG: I only played it this year, but I think Fallout 3 was released last year, right?

Best Rythym/Music Game: Guitar Hero 5. More of the same, better track list.

I'll do the rest later.
