It seems strange there is not a best writing or storytelling award, it's like saying that contributes nothing to the experience. Yet we have had some awesome contenders this year, like Portal 2, The Witcher 2 and Deus Ex HR. Also, Dragon Age 2 (for all it's failings, it had a very novel and innovative story. How often to you see a game following a three part tragedy in framed narrative?).
This is the same reason I don't take the VGAs seriously. They have an award for "biggest badass" but none for the best story.
