We might not have new game announcements, or new trailers to show off (I'm sure we could get someone to start ranting about EA if necessary...), but the time is here yet again to vote in the only video game awards that really matter – the 2017 GRcade Game of the Year Awards :toot:

We don't have a bucketload of pointless categories, just five in which to make your choices.

What to do now

1. Copy and paste the voting form (below), fill in your nominations, and post it in this thread. You don’t have to give your reasons, but if you do it makes for a better discussion.
2. You don’t need to vote in every category, just the ones you feel confident to make a nomination.
3. Only one nomination per category please. If you put multiple votes in, I shall just count the first one mentioned.
4. Voting closes at 11.59pm on 13 January 2018, so there is plenty of time to get your votes in.

Voting form:

Best visuals: Star Wars Battlefront 2*
Best audio: Star Wars Battlefront 2*
Best multiplayer: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (I've not really played much MP other than that this year)
Most anticipated game: Metroid Prime 4
GRcade Game of the Year 2017: Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild

* I will caveat that while BF2 is a steaming pile of pay-to-win filth, it does look and sound very very nice.

Best visuals: Forza Motorsport 7
This looks absolutely amazing, a real step up when looking back at FM5, even on the base xbone hardware.

Best audio: Cuphead
I will never play this but it has a great period soundtrack which really stood out.

Best multiplayer: Gran Turismo Sport
However shite i may be at it, bringing iRacing-style driver rankings etc to console was a bold move.

Most anticipated game: Ni No Kuni 2
Absolutely loved the first, here's hoping this carries on being amazing.

GRcade Game of the Year 2017: none, i have barely bought anything which came out this year.

Best visuals: Only one game really wowed me this year, and that was Horizon: Zero Dawn. The sheer visual grunt, coupled with fantastic art direction, made it a real marvel.

Best audio: Probably my only entry that I'm 100% sure should clinch it: Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. The 3D audio turned what could have been a fairly rote (but gorgeous) puzzler into an incredibly immersive and educational experience.

Best multiplayer: For me personally, either Overwatch or Overcooked. It's hard to argue against my actual pick, PUBG, though. It's been a phenomenon.

Most anticipated game: Well it was TLoU 2. Unfortunately the incredibly misjudged trailer at the Paris PS Expo changed my mind. In a year defined by the widening realisation that, yes, women are serially abused by men, ND go and release a trailer that consists purely of extreme violence being perpetrated on several women. Then they went and dismissed, in the most puerile and effortless way imaginable, a sexual assault allegation involving one of their design leads.

So it's not TLoU2. strawberry float that game and that team. It's Monster Hunter.

Game of the Year: Games that made a huge impression on me this year include Torment: Tides of Numanera which, although flawed, contained the year's best narrative, Stories Untold, a fiendishly clever little gem that went largely unnoticed and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus which not only provided the most WTF moments of the year but was the first game that felt like a genuine piece of protest art, intentional or not. [Can I change this? Ok, I changed this. It's Nier Automata. I forgot I played it this year]

Lol at BOTW 3 year streak for most anticipated

Best visuals: Gravity Rush 2
Best audio: Gravity Rush 2
Best multiplayer: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Most anticipated game: The Last of Us Part II
GRcade Game of the Year 2017: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

This year has been phenomenal, so many great games - but Zelda beats them all in its absolute majesty.

It's also impossible to not give the best multiplayer award to Mario Kart 8

Best visuals: Ghost Recon: Wildlands
Best audio: Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Future Tone
Best multiplayer: Pro Evolution Soccer PES 2018
Most anticipated game: Metro Exodus
GRcade Game of the Year 2017: Super Mario Odyssey

I found voting pretty tough this year. I was close to putting Kart 8 Deluxe up for the Multiplayer award, but PES edged it out.

Best visuals- Persona 5
Honestly, this is based purely on the style it oozes. I'm not that fussed about photorealism in games, but give me a snazzy menu screen and I'm all over that gooseberry fool.

Best audio- Persona 5
There's not a bad song on the soundtrack and the better ones are outstanding.

Best multiplayer- Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood
I don't know if this counts. It's on the Wiki list and there's as much Stormblood content as there was A Realm Reborn content on launch so I'm throwing it in. It's also a fantastic FF game in its own right. Otherwise, I don't think I actually played a multiplayer game this year.

Most anticipated game- Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
I need me some good new Castlevania in my brain.

GRcade Game of the Year 2017- Persona 5
While not as good as Persona 4 it's still a solid 10/10 and it's gotten a load of my friends into RPGs who before never even looked at them.

Best visuals: Has to be Horizon Zero Dawn, that game is gorgeous 90% of the time and absolutely breathtaking 10% of the time.

Best audio: As much as I love the soundtrack to Stardew, it's got to be Horizon Zero Dawn again. Playing this with a decent set of headphones really opened my eyes to how good PS4 audio can be. I'd even spend a few minutes just stood on top of a hill listening to the wind.

Best multiplayer: I don't really play multiplayer so can't really offer an option. In fact the only multiplayer I've played regularly this year are either Monster Hunter IV or Titanfall 2 and neither launched in 2017.

Most anticipated game: It's a close one for me between Ace Combat 7 (for the VR), Monster Hunter World and the final winner Red Dead Redemption 2.

GRcade Game of the Year 2017: I spent an awful lot of time with Horizon Zero Dawn this year, didn't really play Zelda much on Wii U for one reason or another and have only just picked up a Switch and haven't played Odyssey yet. But one game shines over all the content I've played this year and that is Stardew Valley and the fact that I'll soon be playing it again on Switch makes me smile a lot.
