I could have sworn it came out early 2017 on PS4 in Europe but Wikipedia does say mid December 2016. Either way it's irrelevant as I'll probably be the only one voting for it.

If you pick up that Switch version then you can say it’s a 2017 release, Rex :toot: .

There's no if about it. Portable Stardew, what a time to be alive. The only thing more addictive than that would be to find a way to shoot it straight into my cerebral cortex.

Best visuals: Horizon Zero Dawn.

Started this recently and, some out of place lip-sync aside, HZD is absolutely stunning to behold.

Best audio: TLoZ: Breath of the Wild.

BotW's audio has as much a part to play in the games captivating charm as anything else. Everything about it screams Nintendo at their absolute best.

Best multiplayer: CoD: World War II.

Pure, simple, pick up and play fun. This is what I've always enjoyed about Call of Duty and WWII delivers. After a hard day at work, being able to just switch off my brain and dive in for an evenings entertainment with my mates playing CoD is great.

GRcade Game of the Year 2017: TLoZ: Breath of the Wild

It's just so much fun to play and just as you think you've seen it all BotW surprises you again, then again. The sense of freedom is unbeaten.

Best visuals: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The art style really complements the game.

Best audio: Super Mario Odyssey

The audio was the one disappointment of Breath of the Wild for me. I know it was a conscious decision they made to have the subtle themes etc, but at times I just wanted the fully orchestrated Zelda theme to kick in nice and loud. Mario had some really catchy tunes though.

Best multiplayer: Splatoon 2

Pretty much more of the same, but with a few extra options, but it's the best new multiplayer game I played this year.

Most anticipated game: Red Dead Redemption 2

I didn't really find much to choose from here, probably because Switch is my main platform and we're still waiting to see what Nintendo will have for us next year. I don't think you can vote for Metroid Prime 4 when all we've seen so far is essentially a logo.

GRcade Game of the Year 2017: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

An amazing experience. It fully deserved those three most anticipated awards.

This is the year I feel most qualified to vote on GOTYs, usually I’ve played half at most of the games nominated but this year I’ve got Zelda, Mario, Horizon, Persona, Nier, Resi 7, For Honor and many more all ticked off.

Best visuals: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
It’s like walking through a Ghibli movie. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve just had to sit and marvel at its beauty. While games like Assassins Creed and Horizon are technically spectacular, I find them very aesthetically confusing, you’re overwhelmed with detail, muddying the screen into just a mess of shapes and colour. Zelda is the absolute perfect blend of art style and functionality. And what an art style it is, absolutely perfect for Zelda, I honestly would be happy with the series sticking with it for the next decade.

Best audio: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Choice between Nier, Persona and Zelda. While the former two have great tracks, neither of them use the music as intelligently as Zelda which completely frames and lifts the world with its entire sound track rather than just accompanying your playtime with some great tunes.

Best multiplayer: For Honor
Toss up between this Fortnite and Injustice 2 for me. While Injustice is a more admirable achievement and probably more deserving and it’s difficult not to acknowledge the sheer fun of Battle Royale plus If I’d been able to play PUBG I’m sure it would be that. However For Honor tried something different and really pulled it off with style. So many great tense moments, it hasn’t got the love it deserved in a lot of places and sadly the quality of games in and around it saw it getting overshadowed.

Most anticipated game: Spiderman
Looks fantastic, can’t way to experience that movement myself.

GRcade Game of the Year 2017: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Not just Game of the Year, Game of the Generation and possibly the greatest game ever made too. A phenomenal achievement

Vintage year. Great year for vg music fans too. I mean usually, I leave that category blank or only have one or two songs which stand out. But this year was nuts. So many great, whole soundtracks! strawberry float, I even *bought* my first OST and at the time I recall thinking it'd be the best one of the year.
