Yikes! OK so you'll definitely want to avoid Spotify for your first listen. Try and get hold of a vinyl copy of Absolution and Origns of Symmetry to start with - this should really get you into Muses guitar sounds and Matt Bellamys unique vocals.

After that (and if you're enjoying it!) maybe listen to a few tracks from Black Holes and Revelations (BHR). This album was a huge departure for the band where they took a more prog rock route. Very brave at the time.

Obviously pm me with any more questions! And enjoy!

These days I'd say they're pop with various rock genre elements included in their overall sound.

The Resistance is okay and I will fight anyone who disagrees with me.

The one after it...no. Just no. Drones is okay though.

What's the newest one like?

Its rather different to their older output (very synth heavy) and a bit of a mixed bag in all honesty.

Parts of it are genuinely good but there's a couple of songs that are painful to listen to (Propaganda and Break it to me).

Still much better than the 2nd Law.

I actually got curious and listened to the start of it. The first track was very synthwave.

I know I'm late to this but anyways:

I don't think Muse are indie by definition or by general sound. Hard to pin down really a genre but like most in here I think alt/pop rock would probably be the best fit for a lot of it. Someone said prog which I do understand 'cause they do sound a bit proggy at times but they're really not that complex really!

Either way, they got a few jams! Can't fault em.
