It was publisher THQ who passed along the gold-plated Wii to the royal family, along with a copy of BIG Family Games.

"The Royal Family is arguably the most important family in the country so we felt that they had to have a copy of the new game," said THQ product manager Danielle Robinson.

"But we thought that Her Majesty the Queen wouldn't want to play on any old console, so an extra-special gold one was commissioned. We hope that she and the rest of the Royal Family enjoy
(using the term losely) the game!"

That's great and all, but a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess would fit better with the gold color scheme, don't you think?

She's going to give Charles a copy of Little King's Story, just to rub it in.

"Queen presented with golden Wii." would have been funnier.

The Royal Wii is even more appropriate.

Last I checked, THQ didn't make Twilight Princess.

Last I checked, I thought THQ had big money worries.

Believe me, you tell the Americans that the Royal family are playing this game, and they will flock for it.

Even so... Why gold-plate the Wii?

Well, that would certainly explain the choice of game, at any rate.

I'm taking it they're just going to leave it on top of Queen Anne's grave then?

There hasn't been a Queen of England since 1707. I bet the graphics will amaze her.

Well that was rather stupid. I mean, gold is pretty heavy. Coating a controller that requires you to be moving it about quite a lot, with a reputation for having a strap that breaks easily, is not a good idea for a family that is mostly people over 50, at least the ones that stay in one place.

I can't be bothered to check, but FF is probably right. Elizabeth II is the Queen of the whole Commonwealth, not just England.

Meh.
