I have a TMA due next week but this module is so dull that I am struggling to get it completed. I have done well over half of it and only have around 700 more words to write but IT'S SO strawberry floating DULL!

Anyway once I complete this one, I only have 2 TMA's and the EMA left and then I hopefully never do any more education again ever. ;)

At the moment nothing as I haven't been able to bring myself to start writing this morning. :slol:

I work full time but am doing a degree with the Open University. I am not doing it for any reason other than to learn things so I am not doing a named degree but an Open one, this means that I can study anything I like and am not limited to certain modules. I only need 60 more level 3 points to get a full degree with honours which is why this (deathly deathly dull) module will be my last.

I could claim a degree right now and not bother with this dull module, but that wouldn't be a full degree with honours and so I am suffering through this one. It sounded interesting when I signed up, but it is DULL DULL DULL.

Does it come across that I am not enjoying this module? ;)

You seem to be really enjoying your last module, Moggy.

It all depends on the modules that you do. Some of them are cheaper than others! It basically works out like this:

10 point module - £200
30 point module - £400
60 point module - £700

You need 120 points at 3 levels, so it would be roughly £1400 for level one, £1400 for level two etc. A total of £4000ish would be my guess as some of my modules were cheaper than that.

That's very basic costings though! The fees increase a bit every year so I am not sure exactly what I have spent. Also because I have been doing this since 2010, I am on the old fee structure for the OU, nowadays it will cost thousands of points just for a module!!

As an example, one of the Level 1 modules that I did is currently priced at £883 for Scottish students (Scottish price is the same as the price would have been for everyone pre Tory/Lib Dem changes) but is priced at £2,700 for English students. You can now get a proper student loan if you wanted to do an OU degree but still.... :dread:

The new OU pricing is totally bonkers. :( The mandate of the OU should be to make higher education accessible.

Yep, I would never have bothered starting if the fees had been as insane as they are now.

In other news, I have reached the word count for part 1 of my TMA. Now to tidy it up, write part 2 (part 2 is only 150 words so not as much of an issue!) and ensure it all makes sense. :dread:

After all my moaning, I managed to get 71% on the TMA. :datass: I stand by my comments of how strawberry floating boring it is though. ;)

But that was a great result as it means (with two TMAs to go!) I am guaranteed to pass the module as long as I get more than 40% in the EMA.

Also, assuming I can get basic 40% passes on the final two TMAs and get a minimum of 55% on the EMA, I will end up with a 2:1 degree. :datass:

Now watch me strawberry float it all up. ;)

Well done Moggy. This is the first year since I left school (14 years ago) that I haven't been doing some kind of distance learning or block release. To be honest, I really thought I'd miss it more. As much of a chore as it can be coming in from work and having to get stuck into textbooks, it can be massively rewarding. The 6 months since finishing my degree have been amazing though, just stick in and try to get a result that makes the effort worthwhile and I'm positive you won't regret it.

Cheers Hime and congrats on finishing your degree. As much as I moan about it I do enjoy it really, although I am not sure I will ever put myself through higher education again (certainly not at the current prices anyway!).

Writing an application for some awards but I need to include a cover letter. I've never written one for an award so I'm not too sure what to include. I found this online, but it seems very basic...

Does anyone have any tips?

My "last" module started with the OU three weeks ago. I've not even had a chance to start anything.

Thankfully it's an easy module and nothing is due until April, but I gotta catch up with myself. :dread:
