I want to clarify, when I said all I can afford is a shed, I meant to buy. I could rent something, but then my money is just going nowhere, so I'd much rather buy something, and this is the problem. Housing here is ridiculously overvalued. I was looking online and there is someone selling a parking spot in a condo for $60,000!

I've been trying to do a final rewrite of my abstract and wish the authors of those "how to write your abstract in 30 minutes!" blog posts would all go strawberry float themselves to death into an active volcano on Mars. I've been here for hours trying to sum up 90,000 words in 300 and seem to be getting nowhere.

Just be modern and write it like a click bait ad.

Has History (You're a History Major right?) gone too far? You won't believe what these dead guys did! I followed their advice and I now make $10,000 a month working from home with just my laptop!

Dunno where you found that copy of my abstract, but kindly remove it... :slol:

Well I strawberry floated up, I left my award applications until the last damn minute like an idiot, even though I started doing some early leg work back in MAY! I was filling up an application and it's asking that all references send their letters electronically. The application at my university is due on Monday, and I told my references on Friday to write me a letter and I would need it in a sealed envelope.

Well now what the hell do I do, tell them I was an idiot and ask them to send an email instead or just not apply? I still need to write some information about myself for the award application which I haven't even started yet. Should I even bother or just save myself from looking like an idiot?

But then what do I do with the sealed reference letters? I don't want to hold onto them just in case the referees get some sort of confirmation that the letter was received by the awards people.

Couldn't you scan and email them? Surely a letter is still a reference whether it comes in a sealed envelope or not. It's not as if someone else couldn't seal an envelope. I also have several copies of a written reference but I'm sure I've scanned it before.

References mean nothing until they're verified, and they do get verified, I've done it.

You have 3 working days, I wouldn't give up just yet.

Also, can't references be late. Just do the application and the references get there whenever. It's going to take them ages to do the applications. You'll probably regret it otherwise.

Heck I showed up on the day of enrollment and still hadn't completed by level 3 BTEC and I still enrolled for my degree by saying I had enough ucas points. These things don't always matter as long as you show up in the process and make yourself heard. If I had thought similar things at the time I may never have gone to university when I did and then who knows.

I know you're post grad btw.

Also I doubt it would bother your referees that much to ask frem to email a word doc if that's really what they have to do, even if they only get 1.

Well, I finished my OU degree with:

Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computing and Information Technology, Lower Second-class Honours (2.2)

Not perfect, but I'll take it over nothing and I learnt that distance learning is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Especially once I started work!

I'm just so happy my university level education is over. I still need to now study for work qualification exams, but no longer do I have to worry about assignments! :toot:

Tip, most people just write 2nd class or 2.2 and tip 2, most people don't care what class you got unless it's a 3rd in which case why. Or just list the degree it is. Congrats Mr Qikz bachelor of science with honours!

I just read this now, but this was basically what I did and you were right they didn't seem too bothered to submit the electronic versions.

I guess I was just blowing things out of proportion. Solid advice GG

I somehow managed to find the old thread for this, think Karl had made a new thread, clicked this and found out that it'd been made in 2014 and I'd been posting in it. Amazing.

It shows the importance of emphasis in sentences that I am, officially, over a third of the way through my PhD. I am, however, most certainly NOT a third of the way through my PhD :slol: :dread:
