New Dj shadow album isn't great imo. Every release they say it's a return to near-Endtroudcing quality, but nah.

Skepta's new(ish) album's pretty sweet. Not really hip hop but close enough.

That is totally ace! I haven't listened to any DJ Shadow stuff since Endtroducing but I really like that.

Meanwhile... I only just realised that De La Soul's new album, "and the Anonymous Nobody", is out next month :o . I love nearly all of their stuff :toot: .

This track, Pain, is from the album:

Got it played.

Hmmn.

It's... gonna need another listen. I do like it but it feels a bit meandering; it never really kicks off. There are lots of collaborations and I know that a ton of effort has been put into making all of the samples and stuff. But I can't name a single track where I thought "yeah, now that's good". Off the cuff, it feels like De La has spent a little too much time on factoring in the other artists than just making good tunes.

But, hey, that's just one play. There is enough there to make me want to spin it agin and I will. I'm hoping that I can pay a bit more attention to the lyrics and start getting into it.

Probably my two favourite Wu-Tang songs.

Anybody seen Hip-Hop Evolution on Netflix? It's a three part series tracing, well, the evolution of hip-hop. Lots of great archive footage and an impressive group of interviewees. Well worth a watch, particularly after The Get Down.

That was fun once, and once only.

Tell you what, though, since RTJ3 came out, I've listened to almost nothing but their three albums, plus Killer Mike's R.A.P. Music, and El-P's Cancer for Cure. Can't get enough.

Are you still in Scotland? There's a Glasgow date on the 26th at the O2 ABC that's not on the poster for some reason.
