Anyone else watching this?

Basically Bear Grylls has abandoned a set of 14 girls and 14 guys on two separate islands totally unprepared to survive. Predictably they seem to be in a race to see who can die the soonest.

3 episodes in and it's very entertaining, if painful watching, there are some right pricks on the guys island.

They've done shows like this quite a few times before, haven't? The majority of the time the female group utterly fail. I remember reading about one particular instance where the males just got on with gooseberry fool - one guy built a communal eating area, one spent his day fishing, another would forage for berries, etc. The females on the other hand ate through their emergency rations within a few days; rations they had to eat in the pissing rain because they didn't bother to build any shelter. Days were spent sunbathing and moaning.

After they spent some time legitimately suffering, the producers swapped three of the guys with three of the girls. The three guys thought they'd won the lottery - heading over to an island with like, a dozen women. When they got there they were genuinely angry that the woman had done strawberry float all.. I can't remember which show or which season but it's a theme that seems too common on these 'gender split' island shows.

Watching this too. Nice they're at least being transparent about planting the crocs/water sources etc on the island this time.

The women  strawberry floating useless, I'm just waiting for one of them to start crying they miss Facebook or something.

That graphic designer banging on about mars bars etc, what a mummy's boy little baby.

The one that cracked me up was her crying like a bitch that they would have to get wet swimming to shore....
They go lucky with fire I think, they are so un-organised it is mental.

It would be incredible if one of them radios to leave the island, and then when the boat turns up, Bear appears in his rib and says, "....we're gonna have to take the boy"

From what I saw in the first two episodes it was the guys who were being precious bitches. The state of the two who left at the start of the third episode was appalling :dread:

Also the women got fire and a shelter sorted more or less on the first day (granted its temporary) the guys took days.

I don't really like Bear's assertion that Men represent brute power whilst women represent mental strength :|

You always hear that thing about left to their own devices in an unfamiliar natural landscape people will walk in circles but I always found it hard to believe. Pretty amazing to see it in action

It's a great show this.

Now the twats have left the guys island I'll be interested to see what they can do.

pretty sure this was on channel 5 - i remember that general direction of the series  they had to vote to send one of each person off the island to the opposite island didn't they? something along those lines anyway.

EDIT: found it - was on C4 actually http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shipwrecked_%28TV_series%29

I'm watching the first episode now... Lovely to see the amount of rubbish that's washed up on the uninhabited beach. :dread:

Don't think I can watch the women's island anymore, boring watching them be useless and moan the tits off each other.

The guys aren't much better but at least they try and hunt etc.

Couple of right whingers on the male island. Soft as gooseberry fool.

And the 50 year old builder flouncing off in a huff because they don't like his camp site suggestion.

And the 22 year old that wants to leave after a few days and wastes emergency sat phone power to request a boat... Because he misses his girlfriend. I can imagine that conversation. 'Yeah babe, I know we wanna get married and I know that we planned on you fathering my children but I couldn't survive four days without a bed and margarita pizza please tell me that you still want my seed.'

Women are at it as well, the blonde hairdresser already saying she can't do it after one night. Like, I don't get it. I don't get signing up for something like this with seemingly no insight as to what it'll involve. And I don't get the 'quitting mentality'. If it was me, I would have watched any season of a show like this that I could get my hands on. They all seem entirely genre blind.

How did the women not even consider the problem of getting back to camp after their expedition to find the beach?

Jesus Christ, the women. Absolutely no common sense whatsoever.

So someone of them march off immediately in pursuit of a nicer beach, WITHOUT water. Just unbelievably poor decision making, none of them aside from one wanted to take a minute and discuss the potential resulting scenarios and ramifications. But then it gets worse when they decide to try again after the first failed attempt and again, instead of talking about it, a motley bunch just head straight out again. :fp:

Days are spent actually wandering around in circles. It’s only by incredibly good fortune that the other group found them. To think it could all have been avoided if they had just stopped and thought about it before storming off, because I’m sure that one of them would have realised that the much better, easier, quicker and safer route would have been to navigate around the edge of the island.

This has been decent so far, although the women's island is so boring. The last episode pretty much solely consisted of them following the expedition group in circles over and over again. So much whining as well.

At least the men are getting on with things (as well as bitching about each other) regarding food, shelter, etc. So little common sense among them all though; surely you have your list of priorities (water, fire/firewood, shelter, food) and divide resource and time across those.

The men seem like they have a decent group now the deadwood have gone.

The Vic fella is amazing

I'm genuinely amazed at how easily these guys could get seriously hurt or die. Maybe there's more help in the background than I'm aware of but it seems incredibly irresponsible TV making at times.
