I just wish it had more slice-of-life adventure and less action, because the fights are really, really weak. It's going for comedy battles like Gintama, but it's like the creators haven't clocked that Gintama's fights were imaginative and, well, funny.

EDIT: But I realise I am critiquing an edutainment show aimed at children which seems kinda harsh in retrospect. :slol:

I watched the first two episodes but the character designs just don't really click with me. Something just felt off, I'm not sure if it was just the way White blood cell was drawn, or what but I didn't like it that much. Maybe you are right and it was just the fight scenes being a bit wonky. I might go back and take another look when there are a few more episodes.

I've gone back and have been re-watching the Familiar of Zero

http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?sh ... e&aid=4146

Funny little comedy about a guy who gets sucked into another world with magic and the like. Kind of Like Konosuba I guess, except it's less like a video game.

The fights are definitely wonky, and I think the neutrophils and T-cells (which unfortunately both come up almost every episode so far) are pretty boring designs. The human body is a really surreal place, and I think they lost some of that by making the designs all 'human cosplaying a bit'.

There is the core of a good show there and a lot of cute moments but I think overall it is essentially a bit bland and ultimately mediocre, which is a shame.

If you can get through the other stuff, red blood cell is consistently moe and the platelet moments will make you say 'aww' out loud, and some of the side characters are a lot of fun.

I've had Cells at Work on my to-read list for a couple of years now but doubt I'd get round to giving it a go as I'm in a manga slump atm. Might give the anime a try once I finish Zeta Gundam.

woop! Was wondering when we'd hear news about it. What's the bad news he teases at the start?

Just edited it in. Apparently it'll be 2020 for the rest of the episodes.

YonkouProductions is usually on the money with regards to stuff like this.

Finished watching Land of the Lustrous, binging through the latter half of it, but in all it's only 12 episodes. I liked it but it dragged at some points. It starts to seem serious and philosophical before comedic/lighthearted moments get in the way. Nothing wrong with that occasionally, but those moments aren't always welcome or that funny.

Also it seems like in every episode or every other episode they're standing standing on a cliff and to their inexplicable surprise Lunarians - the antagonists (?) - appear, and this is what usually moves the story along.

That said the story really starts to gain momentum in the second half with its developments, so it'll be cool if there's a second season. The CGI they used for the show was decent/refreshing and it was complemented well with the sound design. You really get the sense they're rock-solid gem people with the scraping sounds and footsteps.

Now I should get through that Black Lagoon OVA but the Pokémon Sun and Moon anime has piqued my interest since recently people have been saying it's pretty good, and I've always really liked the look of the art and animation. And the one good thing about the Pokémon anime basically resetting the plot every generation is that I don't need to start from the beginning or previous seasons.

I started watching the new Familiar of Zero err Konosubahow I mean How Not to Summon a Demon Lord

http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?sh ... &aid=13757

and it's actually really enjoyable, it's kind of like if One Punch Man got pulled into an RPG and there was a lot more boobs. :toot:

The basic premise is some neet who is the highest level player in an MMO gets pulled into a parallel universe as his character from the game, so he's completely overpowered (at least so far).

Even though I've read all the Web comic and the beautifully drawn manga, that is way too long to wait.

But if anyone does watch it, I would like to read their thoughts of the quality of animation compared to S1.

I'll be watching it for that very reason. It appears that the staff are taking their time to ensure quality so I am somewhat hopeful.

Edit: Buuuuut...

:toot: Well that's a damn sight better than 2020!
If the opening ep is a recap episode type, then I probably actually will watch it if it gives a flavour of the style the new series will be adopting. I just hope it keeps a mix of art styles as in the first series.

It's scary how much agrettsuko has described my past week at work. I've even gone into the bathroom to get angry as well.

Been watching with my friend, it's been great. (Agrettsuko)

So the beauty in Mob Psycho 100 (or at least the first 5 eps) is how low-profile Mob is and how down to earth his wants are. So much so that I can't help but feel like putting a big brotherly arm around him and tell him it'll all be okay, or something.
The show feels so different compared to MHA and OPM.

Oh and The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. is currently my go to anime right before bed.

 Start of Mob ep 5: I knew that speech was going to be by him and yet the reveal made me laugh all the same. So good.

Despite all his power he is someone you can easily relate to and it's hard not to care about the lad throughout his journey. I wont spoil anything other than that Mob Psycho 100 is one of those rare series which gives you a truly satisfying ending for the characters. Can't wait for season 2!

I've been trying to watch more anime but just get lost with so many titles to choose from. One Punch Man was recommended to me though and I have to say that it's, quite literally (yes, actual literally) the best thing ever produced. Ever.

From the frankly strawberry floating OUTSTANDING title music, to the post credits voice over from that episode's Main Baddie, I loved the whole thing. I've have watched it three times now, so news of the second series' impending arrival is :D

My daughter watched it as well and was equally taken with it. She's getting more into anime and manga, but, as ever, trying to find suitable titles for her is a bit tricky.

She's 11 and one of her pals had leant her Black Butler, along with telling her to watch Tokyo Ghoul. I hadn't heard of either but had to have a wee chat with her once I'd read up on them :dread: think she's a bit young for them yet.

I've been told that Cardcaptor Sakura and Sailor Moon would be good for her to watch, but they don't seem to be available for streaming anywhere. There are loads of titles on Netflix and Hulu though, could anyone point me towards some others that wouldn't mentally scar her at the moment?

As discussed above, Mob Psycho 100 is by the same creator as One Punch Man. It's similar in style, but the main character has different motivations and faces different challenges. Would strongly recommend. You'll love it.

You made a good call keeping her away from stuff like Tokyo Ghoul, ha! But even shows explicitly aimed at kids in Japan can have bits that, err, raise eyebrows here, so it can be tricky to recommend stuff. Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura are definitely the obvious ones if you can find a way to get a hold of them.

From the Netflix UK catalogue, I would recommend Little Witch Academia. I've only seen the animated short, not the TV series, but it was very good. It's like anime Harry Potter. I can't remember any hugely problematic moments.

Not on Netflix as far as I can see, but you might want to pick up a DVD of Kiki's Delivery Service. It's a good gateway into Studio Ghibli. From there you'll want to go to My Neighbour Totoro and then Spirited Away.

EDIT: As for manga... depending on her sense of humour she may enjoy Yotsuba&!, which is the best slice-of-life comedy manga ever drawn. It's hilarious, but it's not very "exciting" - it has a similar tone and pace to, say, a Calvin & Hobbes compilation - so it depends what she likes.
