Meh, never really too interested in Arc System Works output. Their games look really nice, but that side on gameplay :dread:

:( This is sad to hear. A proper Studio Trigger ArcSys fighter could have been pretty rad.

I was waiting to see what you thought of that moment with Gon, I had my jaw on the floor when I read that and it was so beautifully animated in that episode. Hunter x Hunter at its best.

It was so good! I mean this whole portion of the arc has been brilliant with characters evolving (physically and in their thinking), the slight shifts in perspective (at times in the King/Netero fight I wasn't sure who I was rooting for!), and then the thing with Gon... it's just unrelenting. And the story telling, considering the kind of anime it is, has been some of of the most mature/shades of grey I've seen yet.

I do wonder if they regretted not including Kite from the off. I know that's where the 1999 series began and so I can understand why they may have chosen not to tread similar ground, but I think it would have made Kite's loss and Gon's turn even more impactful.

Depending on how this series ends, I feel like I need to know what happens next and so I may have to start on the HxH manga. (Which is going to be a pain because I haven't even started on my Rurouni Kenshin yet  :fp:)

Hunter X Hunter definitely seems to skirt the line between shounen and seinen with its use of body horror and more mature storytelling. You take one look at Gon and Killua and expect your typical Dragonball or Naruto and end up with complex abilities and a shit-ton of death around every corner.

You should definitely join us with the manga! The world has been given yet another layer of depth to it in the latest arc and quite soon after the end of the anime content we were treated to one of the best battles in the series to date. It shouldn't take too long to catch up as Togashi only seems to release enough chapters for a single volume at a time before going on hiatus for another 6-12 months.

Just checked and the anime covered up to chapter 339 while the manga is currently on chapter 380. 41 chapters... do eeet! ;)

Right?! It's lovely mad stuff!

After a quick bit of searching I think that's volume 31 (Joining the Fray) I want...? I'll do the smart thing this time and buy 'em one at a time. They seem quite reasonably priced on Amazon UK. Even in pb form.

HxH 134: I'm guessing King's final form will take that of the most understanding, benevolent being ever :o :( Quite the twist when you consider the route Gon took.

Madoromi-chan ga Iku, seems wholesome but I've not read it, only seen screenshots. It's on my plan to read!

It looks silly. I like it.

HxH 135: I like how Meruem's tail *kind of* waggles when he's asking Komugi what's wrong. It shows in the most subtle way how he's changed. (Because in previous eps his tail would only ever be an extension of his anger, either in show as with the waggle or using it to threaten. But in the above scene it almost behaves like a innocent dog's tail. Kind of.)

Yeah those Madoromi-chan ga Iku panels are adorable, may have to check that out at some point..

Finished Konjiki no Gash!!/Zatch Bell, ending the anime at the point the filler ending begins and switching over to the manga. And more than anything I've (re)discovered: manga is awesome. This won't necessarily be the case for every show, but for this and Soul Eater everything in the manga looks so much more brutal and powerful.

Better for pacing too a lot of the time. Only read the manga from the point the show ended but I feel like they must have stretched some of the 'slice of life' chapters to be whole episodes. I like slice of life but for this show those episodes were hit and miss.

Really liked this anime/manga even though it had its issues. In particular its sudden shifts to a comedic tone at inappropriate times where it kills the tension, which got worse later on in the show when the stakes got increasingly higher. Has good feelsy moments and a likeable cast of characters. Surprisingly solid resolutions for a lot of them, despite there being a lot of them, unlike a lot of other shows (*cough* Bleach).

Next up I guess I'll catch up on the My Hero Academia anime, or start watching Darling in the Franx. Been hearing mixed things about that show but it's piqued my interest.

Last chapter of volume 32 onwards according to wiki.

I was surprised how cheap the volumes are on Amazon, £3-6 is a bargain compared to what you have to pay for some series.

Tempted to rewatch Hunter x Hunter.

Up to date with the manga but the constant hiatus (Hiatus x Hiatus) drives me mad. Same as Berserk manga constant hiatus.

I need to get back into JoJo's - left off at Part 3 (which is when it's meant to get really good from what I've heard) and this might be the kick I need to catch up in time for Part 5 starting.
