I like the art style of this High Spice Guardian. I'm not really bothered that it doesn't look too 'anime', but at the same time it's not the most un-anime looking anime-influenced show I've seen. Not to mention that there are actual anime that go against traditional anime design - like (for the most part) Panty & Stocking, which draws heavy influence from Western animation, and it's great. Aggretsuko seems that way as well - haven't watched it myself, but I've heard that's also very good.

However, I'm not necessarily giving it a thumbs-up.

We don't know what the show will be like in motion yet, or what the writing will be like. Looking up the people involved, a few of them have a decent-looking portfolio, but it's not enough for me to make a judgement on whether or not I'll think this'll be good. As of right now I don't have any real expectations.

Agreed. And P&SWG is indeed really good. I was expecting wall-to-wall fanservice nonsense but it's actually a pretty clever take on Cartoon Network shows like The Powerpuff Girls and I had a lot of fun with it.

Seems like Crunchyroll are getting flak for prioritising something like this over improving their service/getting more shows, but cba going into that and I'm not really bothered myself. I've been subscribed to CR a few times in the past, but not for a long time now since I personally don't think it's worth it.

I'm subscribed to CR but rando streaming sites offer an objectively better service and I think that's sad. That's got nowt to do with how I view shows they fund though. I mean I hate Kadokawa as an entity but I still love basically every show they're involved with.

I might check those out. I found Sakura Trick interesting because while it could be a intense at times, it never really got filthy. And I liked that. I didn't think there'd be shows that toe'd the line well like that. Never got around to looking for similar shows though, and I watched it a few years back.

Reminds me that I've been meaning to watch Tsuzere Children which is apparently a pretty good romcom.

GochiUsa is pure cuteness without much overt yuri - it has a similar tone to Kiniro Mosaic, which you might have heard of? If not, I guess it's essentially part of the Lucky Star branch of slice of life - but Yuru Yuri is very much like a more surrealist and hyperactive Sakura Trick, you'll probably like it. Nosebleed girl is best girl.

Tsurezure Children is probs my favourite romcom. It takes a couple of episodes to find its groove but after that it's great.

So yeah, I more or less exclusively watch cutesy slice of life. I have a problem, send help

K-ON! definitely counts, in fact it basically spawned the entire "cute girls sing and/or dance" subgenre of cute girls slice of life.

Just started on ep 12: I was ready to be pissed off at his not being dead but the way it was explained was great 1000%

I had to rewatch those episodes just because.

I'm glad ONE didn't have Mob go berserk and stomp like he would in any other series, the entire finale was just a masterclass in subverting expectations and it was better for it. Reigen may be a shady character but damn has he been a good influence on our loveable little Mob.
