First 3 eps of JoJo down :slol: Going by the art I've seen in the past, I always assumed JoJo's Bizarre Adventure was some kind of SF / spacey anime. Was not expecting a Japanese take on Victorian England and a upper class family feud. Good fun though! And I also wasn't expecting Dio to cop it so that was welcome.

I knew many of my assumptions would end up being false the moment Dio stepped off the carriage

Aw yeah! Get ready for one of the most weird and wonderful journeys in all of anime and manga.

I just hope the sheer number of JoJo memes and references in other media hasn't spoiled too much of what's to come.

I know Dragon Ball Z is basically Plot Holes: The Series, and I've learned to just accept it over the years, but something has really been bugging me today.

Cell absorbed #18 to turn Perfect, and spat her back out when Gohan punched him in the gut. But in-between those two events, Cell got blown to gooseberry fool twice. The first time took his right arm, the second took everything from the chest up clean off. So even assuming #18 was being kept alive and whole inside him after being absorbed, how the strawberry float did she remain in one piece up to that point?

And yes, I already know the answer is just "Shut up".

If I saw JoJo references then they sailed way, way over my head. And I won't mind if I'm watching and then realise it was a meme in X.

Just read the synopsis on otakustream and...

Tsurezure Children – A series depicting various scenarios of young love. These stories range from a boy, crippled by his absolute lack of confidence in himself, cannot even accept the fact that the girl of his dreams actually asked him out on a date, to the near-psychotic girl that pours her own blood into her homemade chocolate in order to win his heart.

wat  I've bookmarked it though! Is there an anime that's closer to Please Tell Me! Galko-chan?

Blood Chocolate Girl actually didn't make it into the anime IIRC. Alas. :(

I can't think of anything similarly surprise-wholesome to Oshiete! Galko-chan off the top of my head. I don't actually like ecchi very much, so I find the animes it's usually compared to hard to watch -- Hajimete no Gyaru has a very similar main girl to Galko, and I hear it eventually becomes at least kind of wholesome, but it has a much more ecchi structure (and OTT fan-service) that I just didn't like very much.

Minami-ke is on my PTW, I haven't got around to it yet, but I hear it has a similar structure and style (but without the gyaru element). Would be interested to hear what you think if you give it a go!

Apart from that, standard slice-of-life-sketch-show recommendations: Azumanga Daioh is the grandmother of sit-around-talking shows, and Lucky Star is the mother of them, both must-watch animes for the hardcore slice-of-life fan (is this a label you want? ;) ); Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon and Nichijou aren't much like Galko-chan at all but you'll definitely like them; and in a bizarre way I reckon Yuru Yuri fits assuming your power level is high enough to become a true anime wizard.

If you're specifically looking for shorts, try Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken, it's pretty good. Or maybe Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san if you specifically want a yuri vibe.

Finally got round to watching Megalo Box and i've been enjoying it a hell of a lot more than I thought I would as I don't usually go in for sports animes but I would wholeheartedly recommend this one. The soundtrack is great too, really gets you pumped.

Ha, no worries. :P I've always got more recs, I'm a walking encyclopaedia of slice-of-life comedies. ;)

(But I've never seen Gundam, JoJo, Naruto, BnHA, One Piece... I just really like moe. )

Well I'm only into 2 of those and I think that's fine, but I'll happily give anything a go (except for idol stuff ) and stick with it if it manages to hook me.

Only Gindam I've seen is the one that was on Cartoon Network about 17-18 years ago. And it was so confusing if you missed even one episode.

I liked Naruto but gave up on shippenden (or whatever)

I never got into One Piece.

I've watched 2 episodes of JoJo.

And My Hero Academia is ace, but haven't watched season 3 at all yet.

I would also recommend Lucky Star, it was very good, but would you consider a show where a bunch of actual dragons show up to someones house a slice of life? I mean, overall I guess it fits in there, but it just seems weird.

Another good shout is Plastic nee-san...

This is probably a bad time to mention Love Live! Sunshine!! is unironically my favourite anime... :slol:

But I get it, "cute girls trying their best" is definitely not a genre for everyone. I think I would have found it pretty cringey if (a) I hadn't already gotten over the crippling embarrassment of realising I quite like J-pop and (b) I hadn't already been so deep in the moe rabbit-hole that I can physically no longer feel shame. ;)

I mean, at its thematic core it's about a lesbian couple falling in love, having an adorable and goofy relationship, and raising a daughter. There's that one legit cool and tense dragon fight at the end but apart from that it's pretty much solid Cute Dragons Doing Cute Things, right?

EDIT: I see what you mean though as it's also a kind of reverse isekai. I guess I think isekai can be slice-of-life sometimes (see also: Isekai Shokudou).

P.S. @Rightey: I put Komi-san on my plan-to-read. If it's not good I'm banning you forever. ;)
