Where to find Anime releases
Tokoyotosho: A torrent site that features the latest releases from subbing groups for the more recent anime series as well as rereleases of older series in batch, soundtracks and anime opening and ending music.

Animetosho: Parallel to Tokyotosho is its sister site which more specifically hosts direct download links for recent releases. Not always reliable though as the links are slowly removed.

Isohunt: While not strictly an anime specific site, it is the best place to look for batch
torrents of older series.

Animetake: Uses the latest (although sometimes not the best) releases for most currently airing anime and gives torrent and direct download links.

Baka-BT: Contains batch torrents for completed anime and manga series and music as well. You can't search without membership but googling the name of the series and Baka BT does the job just as well.

Crunchyroll: Legal site for streaming or current and past anime. Somewhat similar to Youtube in that the comments are idiotic and should be ignored and the community is pretty dire.

Anime on Demand: Similar to Crunchyroll, this provides legal, streaming of current anime. Its catalgoue is slightly less extensive.

Where to find Manga releases
Mangaupdates: Has synopsis' for most manga ever released and allows you to see how far groups are along on scanlations as well as the latest releases for series.

Crazy's Manga: Good source for manga raws and new english releases of select titles.

Online Readers: There are a plethora of online readers which host various licensed and unlicensed series if you don't wish to download. Quality can vary between sites however.

Other useful sites
AniDB - Massive anime database based site for plot synopsis, episode titles, staff lists, subbing groups, future releases and other assorted info. Ideally used to check potential series and to find the best subbed group for a particular series

Anime News Network - Provides news on latest series as well as synopsis and other information on series. Try and ignore the reviews.

MyAnimeList: A listing site which provides a user friendly interface for listing anime and manga you have watched/read. The community, as is so often the case, is to be avoided.

Anime Chart Twitter Feed: This feed provides charts of series in forthcoming series along with a brief description and some basic details

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I liked series X, what else is like it?
A. Other than obviously titled sequels, there is more often than not ever going to be a series that will be "like" another series. You are far better at looking similar genre types or other highly recommended series to find something else to watch.

Q. Where can I find this series/this volume?
A. If you've not been lucky with any of the previous methods or the links are perhaps dead, as with most things Google is always the answer. A simple search of "series name" and "download" or "ddl" will generally helpfully produce some results. If that's proving too generic, try including the subber/scanlator's name or video resolution size.

Q. Why are most anime fans retarded?
A. Because in a large proportion of cases, they are teenagers that believe they are special or are the types that find every meme a hilarious joke. Much like console fanboys for gaming, they are to be treated with pity, disgust and generally ignored. There are few community pages that are worth their salt for anime related chat but other than here, bordersdown and rllmuk, I can generally recommend Neogaf for having a (normally) high level of taste and chat.

Q. I watched some anime once. Am I now a peadophile?
A. I watched some wrestling once but it did not turn me into someone that downloads gay porn.

The Shokugeki no Souma manga is really good, not watched the anime. Same goes for Prison School (Kangoku Gakuen) although I was a bit dissapointed by the ending.

After watching it recently I'd definitely recommend Star Blazers / Space Battleship Yamamoto 2199 in the Sci-Fi category.

And it might be an oldie, but under the same category I'd recommend Outlaw Star.

As a relative newcomer to manga, I'd recommend Death Note (I read and thoroughly enjoyed it) and Tokyo Ghoul (I'm currently reading it) to fellow newbies.

Best thread title :toot:

Things I've watched a good chunk of and really, really enjoyed: Rouruni Kenshin (Netflix has the superior Bang Zoom/Media Blasters dub - There's another dub by Sony and it's *bad*), Hunter x Hunter (2011), My Hero Academia, One Punch Man, Space Dandy, Tonari no Seki-kun, Please Tell Me! Galko-chan, A Silent Voice, Kakegurui, Attack on Titan (s1), Onihei.

Here are some recs.

Kemono Friends -- A serval cat goes on an adventure with her new friend - who has forgotten what her own species is - through the giant, dilapidated "Japari Park" zoo. One of the biggest animes of all time in Japan, this was largely overlooked in the West due to its janky animation. | Kemono Friends is my favourite anime because of its fantastic world-building, which juxtaposes the innocent, moe animals with the creepy post-apocalyptic world they inhabit. Also, cute implied yuri.

Love Live! & Love Live! Sunshine!! -- An upbeat, light-hearted comedy/drama/musical about a group of high-schoolers who decide to enter a national singing competition in order to promote their school, which is in danger of closing. | I love the Love Live! series because it presents mostly-straight-faced a completely fantastical, surreal world which seems to literally revolve entirely around a high-school talent contest, filled with bizarre and wonderful characters who interact in moe, uplifting ways. It's a "media project" and I'm quite into the seiyuu, the music, and the games too. Also, cute implied yuri.

Nichijou -- The everyday life of a child genius, her clockwork robot, their talking cat, and the weird kids and teachers at the nearby school. | Nichijou is the best surrealist comedy I've ever seen, combining truly bizarre locales and situations with thoroughly likeable weirdos and incredible ultra-stylised animation. Also, cute implied yuri.

Saki & Saki: The Nationals -- A high-school Mahjong club discover they have supernatural Mahjong powers, and go to a tournament to face other Mahjong "monsters". | The premise of this anime is hilarious, and it's executed perfectly: completely over-the-top yet mostly told with a straight face. Also, cute implied yuri.

I wish Mahjong were really like this.

F.A.Q.
Q. Why do all of your recommendations have cute implied yuri?
A.

If you prefer more action and/or violence in your anime then you might like the following:

One Punch Man
Kill la Kill
Tengen Toppa Gurran Laggan
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Cowboy Bebop
Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex
My Hero Academia
Rorouni Kenshin
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Seven Deadly Sins
Black Clover
Mob Psycho 100
Jujutsu Kaisen
Dorohedoro
Golden Kamuy
Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer)
Chainsaw Man
Is it wrong to try to pick up girls in a Dungeon?
Fairy Tail
Heavenly Delusion

The "Dr Strangelove or how I learned to stop worrying and love cute slice of life romcom anime" list

Kaguya Sama
Komi Can't Communicate
Ranma 1/2 - Genuiinely great even if some of the humour/attitudes to sexuality and gender hasn't aged well in the 30+ years since it first aired. An utter classic that I'm glad I decided to watch.
Fantasy Bishoujo Juniku Ojisan To (AKA Life with an ordinary guy who reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout).
Don't toy with me, miss Nagatoro.
Tomo Chan is a Girl.
Girlfriend, Girlfriend
A Galaxy Next Door

You may want to check Onihei out (available on Amazon Prime). And I haven't seen these all the way through, but they fall into the action genre and have good reputations: Samurai Champloo, Black Lagoon.

For comedy, a really good more recent one is Nourin...

Image

Also why is Lucky Star in the Staydead group and not Slice of Life?

Also why is there no recommendation for Eiken Club?!

Also can't forget to post out commemorative photo from the last thread...

One Piece is the greatest manga of all time.

Other awesome manga / anime. (No weird hentai shite).

Berserk
Hunter x Hunter
One Punch Man
Mob Psycho 100
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Code Geass
Death Note
My Hero Academia
Overlord
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan

I think I'm missing a few but the above list is already enough to start with.
