That is exactly why. I have always hated him and hate him playing for England as I feel like I should be "supporting" him.

Plus he is old and slow now so he can be dropped for purely "football" reasons.... :shifty:

Is the trial being televised/radioised live anywhere?

Sky have the exclusive rights, although ESPN might show some if it is ongoing at 5.30pm on Saturday.

Terry's defence questioning Ferdinand: "'strawberry floating knobhead' is something I suspect you've been called on the pitch on a number of occasions"

Not sure how you'd prove it, but he'd have to think being a certain race makes you a superior or inferior human being.

Although racism and discrimination on the basis of race are essentially synonyms these days.

John Terry would never bother to call someone a white banana split. He'd just call them a banana split. John Terry doesn't think white works as a multiplier in an insult, but he does think that black does.

You don't have to have deep-seated and rigorous ideas of racial superiority to be a racist. John Terry is a racist.

Disagree with the logic here. John Terry isn't going to call somebody a white wanker because coming from a white person it is just silly just like a black person calling another black person a black wanker. Though I do remember one particular chav during my school days calling everyone ginger wankers when he himself was clearly ginger (and a wanker). To further illustrate my point a fat bastard aint going to call somebody else a fat bastard.

Except fat people do call other people fat bastards.

I don't think John Terry is an out and out white supremacist with Hitler tattooed on his arse and so in that respect he is not a racist. I also don't think he has a problem with black people in general, he seems to genuinely get on with black players at Chelsea/England (other than Rio for obvious reasons at the moment). So a racist, no I don't think so.

But by calling somebody a "black banana split" he is certainly guilty (allegedly) of racial abuse and should be punished accordingly. The only possible reason to add the word "black" to "banana split" is to increase the level of abuse (banta  ).

To be honest it does look like he was sarcastically saying it in the video and is probably innocent. Still, he's an odious sort. Nearly as bad as Giggs.

I was trying to explain to my parents recently that whether you're racist or not; adding black to an insult is completely unnecessary and a complete dick move. They think I'm being overly PC.

I don't see what he's trying to achieve with this 'sarcasm defence'. I think people would think more of him if he owned up to a lapse in judgement (even if it wasn't) and apologised. But then, he'd have to be a decent human being for that.

I can imagine their defence for calling someone a black banana split. "Well, he is black and he is a banana split, so what's the problem?" Annoying init?
