The FA has today charged John Terry.

After seeking advice from an external Independent QC, and having considered the evidence and Magistrates' Court decision in the John Terry case, The FA has today charged the Chelsea player following an alleged incident that occurred during the Queens Park Rangers versus Chelsea fixture at Loftus Road on 23 October 2011.

It is alleged that Terry used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Queens Park Rangers’ Anton Ferdinand, contrary to FA rules.

It is further alleged that this included a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Anton Ferdinand.

This charge is the result of The FA’s long-standing enquiries into this matter, which were placed on hold pending the outcome of the criminal trial, and relates to rules governing football only.

During this period John Terry remains available to play for England.

Terry has until 3 August 2012 to respond.

The FA will make no further comment during this time.

Date: 9th July 2012, expected to last 5 days.
Where: Westminster Magistrates' Court.
Charge: Racially-aggravated public order offence.
Maximum sentence: £2,500 fine or hanging.
Verdict: Not guilty

On 2 November 2011, Terry was placed under police investigation following an allegation of racist abuse made at Anton Ferdinand during a match versus Queens Park Rangers on Sunday 23rd October 2011. Video footage circulated on the internet led to accusations that Terry called Ferdinand a "strawberry floating black banana split". In response to the video footage, Terry claimed that he was actually asking Ferdinand, "Oi, Anton, do you think I called you a black banana split?" On 25 November 2011, Terry was interviewed under caution by the police. On 21 December 2011, he was charged with using racist language by the Crown Prosecution Service. On 3 February 2012, the FA stripped Terry of his England captaincy for the second time, stating that Terry would not captain the national team until the racial abuse allegations against him were resolved. Terry is due to stand trial on 9th July 2012 and has entered a not guilty plea.

Q) Why did you make this thread MM?
A) To keep this gooseberry fool out of the football thread.

How ridiculous. All of the time and money that has/will be spent on this case and even if found guilty he will just be fined an hours wages.

Really? So the rich should never be prosecuted for crimes that involve fines they can easily afford?

They should make a real statement if he's found guilty. Ban him for life or something and set a precedent.

5 days, is that all? You'd have thought that they could have squeezed it in sooner if it's that short.

I don't think he's a racist, but the world of football would have to dive into new realms of despair to discover a more vile man than John Terry. Wouldn't be surprised if he had connections to the Orange Order actually.
