Try Hard Guides - 8.5

Throughout your time in The Last Case of Benedict Fox, players will be confused, intrigued, frustrated, and rewarded for the effort that they put in. While the combat isn’t the best in the show, the exploration and mystery-solving aspects will likely be enough to keep players coming back for more. It will be really exciting to see the theories and community that build around what has the makings to be a cult classic.

This is brilliant BUT the performance feels a bit off. Hope a patch comes soon.

Yep, maybe for 6 months of past Gamepass exclusives are anything to go by.

I had a go on this at lunch time and yes, it momentarily locks up at times. It's reminiscent of an issue Unity games used to have on the Switch.

My other gripe is the relatively small fonts and the demon's subtitles are displayed in magenta which makes them even harder to read.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

Put 4 hours in today. Think I'll leave it there as I'm stuck after exploring the whole map with no obvious way to progress.

My mission is to "find the burnt page in the father's limbo". I just discovered the golem in the workshop. I have the ground pound ability and have the rewritable key.

I knew about the counting system from real life and felt very smug with myself, but it didn't really help anything.

It's a decent game, looks lovely but it's frustrating being completely stuck.

Also this game commits the sin on having a different button close the map/menu than the one that opens it! And the even bigger sin of locking you into an extra button press to exit the menu if you make a mistake and press the same button again.

Have you opened up the garden to the right of the house? Difficult to hint/help without seeing your map.

This 6 hours of the opening might help - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePCFPRLRsvQ

Yep, don't think you get the final key without that. Also opened up the left side too!

^ there's me with my map open lamenting my lack of progress as I gave up. Be careful of spoilers as I might be ahead of you?

I notice one part you've not opened is top left hand corner where you rescued the tatooist from the mirror. Short explanation here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJnBo6bwZQQ

Thank you that's completely it.

A really strawberry floating annoying puzzle because I have encountered 3 of those doors in total, 2 of which are obviously completely unsolvable at my current state (because I obviously need to repair the device to get through).

I see that door, the same type of door that I've been unable to solve and see a load of gibberish on the wall. I think "well, I need to repair the device to get through here" and walk away.

The puzzle relies on you interpreting the "1" on the wall, not as 10 as you have been taught thus far, but as a normal 1, in addition to you overcoming the "can't get through here yet" you've been taught by previous doors.

I think it's soured me on the game unfortunately.

And then not so good. I just went to resume where I left it this afternoon and it loaded from scratch. Selected continue and it’s set me back at least an hour, to just before the first boss. So don’t trust the quick resume and auto save, folks.

Finished this yesterday, probably give it 8/10. Really opens up about 1/4 way through. Some tricky puzzles and a nice atmosphere with good storyline/characters. Platforming & combat pretty average.

Just started this today and I'm quite disappointed. I quite like the design but the voice acting is average at best, and the combat/platforming is janky. One early setpiece was particularly frustating.

Freeing the women from the mirror. Every time you went through a mirror there was a loading screen despite the fact you were staying in the same room. After the loading screen you may be teleported to a spot where a monster instantly attacks you. If you try and retreat back through the mirror, it becomes apparent you can still take damage from monsters during loading screens. After teleporting it doesn't display if you have any health drinks left or what your health is because you're stood in front of a mirror. More than once in the fight my charater froze entirely mid-animation. :fp:

I've dropped the combat difficulty down to relaxing and I'm hoping the puzzles are interesting otherwise I won't bother persisting.

I’m mostly really enjoying it, using the default settings. The combat isn’t great, but becomes better when you unlock more abilities. I’ve had a couple of moments where Benny has frozen, but I don’t recall any loading screens in that mirror section. What are you playing it on?

The progress-losing crash is fairly consistent - it seems to be when you teleport back to the mansion, so I always save before doing that (and after any particularly tricky bit).

The map is MUCH larger than I was expecting.

On the series X. They only lasted a couple of seconds, but enough to be annoying. I'm sticking with it for the puzzles and design, and hopefully the mechanics start to gel a bit more.

Finished it. Loved it, despite the glitches. Good puzzles with little hand-holding, very non-linear, and a helpful map (even without pins).
