I think I might return to it in the future, but I'll have to read up to see if there are any cheats or tricks to lessen my frustrations.

Goldeneye Reloaded - Xbox 360

This was going well, but gradually got more and more annoying - the levels got more padded out with guys popping up out of nowhere, almost right in front of you sometimes. I persevered up until the very last level, which turned into a multiple-stage "defend Natalya while she does a computer thing" with no checkpointing between each stage, so if you die from being shot from all over the place in a brightly-lit and visually noisy room you have to start again, with her yelling about needing cover and not being able to do the thing if the terminal is destroyed.

That was grinding my gears, however immediately after that it turned into a firefight in a room that's on fire/partly electrified, so you have to fight through that while avoiding the insta-death traps all over the place. From here it goes to an open labyrinthine structure with almost no cover, so enemies can flank around and underneath you to shoot you from all sides. While a big solar laser thing takes pot shots at you.

Oh, I forgot to mention that since the end of the Natalya thing there has been a timer ticking down and the game checkpoints at the start of the open catwalk bit, so you're stuck with however much time you had when you got there the first time if you don't want to start the whole level again.

Not even going to look the ending up on Youtube.

Dragon Quest VII on PS1. I really didn’t want to give up on this first because I was enjoying it to begin with and second because I was around 80 hours in but I just had to. The difficulty had spiked ridiculously, it became a huge grind fest and just wasn’t fun anymore.

The boss I was stuck on was just ridiculous, he would put my entire party to sleep and then poison them in his opening turn leaving them virtually defenceless. When they woke up I’d have to heal everybody before I could could get any attacks in and when I attacked everything missed. Absolute strawberry floating joke :x

Sonic Mania. I thought I liked Sonic but maybe not.

The fast bits feel like the game is playing itself and the slow bits are gooseberry fool.

Think I've given up on Fez, pretty much. I'm about 50%-60% through. It's got to the point where my time spent playing it consists of backtracking / wandering around trying to work out how to get to where I want to go. It's boring and tedious, and no fun at all. With limited time to spend on playing games, this isn't what I want to be doing with that time. Shame as I like everything else about the game.

WWE 2K18 (PS4).

It is fun and for a while it took me back to the days of playing Wrestlemainia 2000 on the N64 while working in a local indie. I'm not a huge wrestling fan though, so it was only a matter of time before I kicked WWE 2K18 to the kerb.

Dead Rising 4 - I dunno why, tbh. It's certainly solid enough with no technical or other kinds of glaring faults. (And I really enjoyed mowing all the Zs down when in a vehicle!) I guess I just preferred the original's setting and cartoony look, that or maybe I *really* don't like the combo weapon system.

Everybodys Gone to the Rapture - meh, got bored like 10 minutes in, too slow for me. looks lovley but voice acting and script seemed average
Firewatch - got to like day 60, stuff is starting to happen but the expansive confusing map is getting to me. might come back to it. loved the voice work.
GTA V - bought too many Ps4 games, this got dragged under. fun to drive about in, love the fake-facebook company.
No Mans Sky - got bored early on, watched like 40 hours of gameplay, maybe that killed me lol. not much to do?
Zelda BoTW - started on Master Mode, very hard enemies, gave up, also gave up on normal mode ive explored a lot of the map but nothing grips me.
Elite Dangerous - got too confused with this game, shipped out to a very distant space station for big profit, costs too much to get back. Confused.
Elder Scrolls Online - played this straight for like a month, got very invested in this MMO-hole then realised too much of a time sink, having no friends on PS4 doesn help ive been playing it like a single player game

I GIVE UP ON ALOOTT

Though I did just finish Life is Strange on PS4, one of the best games ive played in a very long time. Voice acting is great, writing takes a dip after Episode 1 but alot of it is very well written, especially things like the Diarys and Text messages.

Monster Hunter World - Sluggish and unsatisfying combat. Maybe not the best game to get into whilst I have a particularly shitty cold? *shrug*

If you count giving up as well just stopping playing it could be any number of games... I tend to play stuff for a bit then wander off forget it exists and then come back to it and finish it later sometimes even years later... If you mean what I mean by given up on as in slammed the bugger down and said sod you never again then the last game I did that with was X-men Wolverine Origins on the xbox 360. I had really been enjoying the game but I just couldnt kill the end boss and it was driving me crazy.

I read it but I can be a bit thick at times lol

I just dont count giving up as giving it a break (yeah sometimes a 5 minute break becomes a 5 year one) I count giving up as if I ever think of playing that again I will go all Hulk on it..

By the way nice name/avatar I loved that dude when he showed up in the old 80's Transformers comics

Yooka Laylee

I battled that final boss again and again, but the fight was just too damn drawn out, and the controls for it were just too fiddly.

In the end i just gave up and headed back to playing CoD.

There are only 2 games I can think I've given up on.

Pikmin was the first. The mechanics were fun, but I just kept messing up a day, redoing it, and then messing up again until I got frustrated and gave up. Tried it again a few years later and got the same result, accepted it wasn't for me.

For the second I got Fire Emblem Sacred Stones on the 3DS Ambassador Program and decided to give it a shot. Got a few missions in and enjoyed what I played, but just ended up falling away and giving my attention to other games. I gave it a second shot too, same result.

Not literally the last one I gave up on, but Mother 3 was the latest game I really tried to get back in to before deciding I really couldn't be bothered.

I have tried to play through this game several times. I think in an earlier playthrough I was around halfway in. The story is good, the way it's told is good. The game is charming and I like the quirkness of the characters and the world. But I find the actual gameplay/battle-system so boring.

I gave up on Pikmin when I played it years ago (like maybe 10 years ago or more now), traded it in for another game. But I went back to it a few months ago and I loved it. Pikmin 2, not so much.

I just stopped playing Sleeping Dogs after that bit
where that wedding is destroyed and any character I cared about is murdered.

Just couldn't be bothered with it after that, which is a shame, because I loved what I played.

Cuphead. I got past the first island, then I tried to take on the food themed one and went "Bugger this".

It's a beautiful game and I love everything about the music and aesthetic, but bloody hell did I find it hard.

Did you play this on the easiest level? If so, you need to do it all on the harder level if you want to do the finale after island 3. Didn't find this out until I'd completed island 3 and have since been playing through the bosses at the harder level in the hope of one day completing it. Just finished all of the bosses on island 2. Island 3 is up next when I can muster the strength to continue.

I think it was Yooka Laylee, man was that game just a chore to do after a while. I said to myself I'd return to it after a while, but after a couple of months I uninstalled it as I was just kidding myself.
