I'm not entirely sure what counts as given up on, as with the games below I haven't made the conscious decision that I won't ever carry on with them, I'm focusing more on trying games in my backlog and seeing whether I want to play them or not. At this stage having tried the games below I have no desire to persist with them and have moved on to something different instead.

Dark Souls - I spent ages faffing around with the configuration files on PC in order to actually get it to run at 1440P and play properly. Played my way through the first level up to the point where I had my second encounter with the Asylum Demon. I accidentally rolled off a ledge to my death before I even got to fight him :fp: Haven't bothered trying it again since and not sure I really have any great desire to, it all felt a bit clunky and in all honesty not particularly inspiring.

Resident Evil 6 - Played through the intro and started the Leon campaign, played an hour for so and similar to the above it just didn't play particularly well and didn't leave me with any burning desire to carry on with it at this point.

Unfortunately I've got to a point with gaming where unless something immediately grabs me I really struggle to find the time to dedicate to it.

Took me a while to think about it and it was the Water Blog in metroid prime 2. After acing prime 1 I was well up for a similar adventure but not only is the dark world horrible the game has massive difficulty spikes plus backtracking plus age unfortunately I've never gone back to it all these years, which is criminal. It's probably made worse by the shame that's its a reportedly easy shitty sub boss but it's also strawberry floating underwater.

The Alpha Blog? That's the first place I gave up.

That's the one. I tried about 7 times and got sick of swimming back.

So many places in Metroid Prime 2 I gave up. I went back each time after a few weeks though and have now completed it, but there are some right bastard annoying parts, especially if you've not saved for a while.

So you got about 20 minutes in?

I very rarely give up on games.

There's been a few mentions for Metroid Prime 2, put me down for that too. I loved the first but wasn't enjoying the second as much so when I got to a bit, couldn't tell you where, were after I while I still couldn't figure out where to go I just gave up.

GTA 3 and 4. I just don't get GTA games. Everyone says there's a whole world to explore and so much to do but unless you trigger a mission nothing ever happens. I just don't enjoy the gameplay. I should have learned my lesson with 3 but thought I might enjoy 4 more due to the 360's extra power but no difference.

By the end of PS2/Xbox/GC era I had loads of games I'd not even started. I wanted to finish as many as I could before upgrading. Gave Manhunt ago. Early impression was it was rubbish so decided then to trade most of my stuff in for a 360. I had Strangers Wrath which I never even tried which I always regret.

Dead Rising. Early days of 360 when I changed from being a collector the previous gen to just play it, complete it, trade it. Didn't click with it quick enough so just traded it. Plan on getting the re-master and giving it another go.

Borderlands. I really enjoyed the first few years of the 360 but after Reach when it come to playing something else nothing really appealed. I got this and Blur, might have been a 2 for £30 deal. I found Blur mediocre but I at least played it. This I just couldn't get into. I think I was just bored with gaming at this point, early 2011. Apart from FIFA each year and a brief spell with Fight Night Champion this was the last game I played for nearly 5 years until I got Alien Isolation about 12 months ago.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag. Completed most of the game and eventually got to a point where I just couldn't be strawberry floated with the modern day sections or care where the generic plot went next. It's a decent but shallow game, and I'm content with what I saw of it

Probably a bit more than that but not by much, however even by then it had clearly laid out its tryhard fourth-wall breaking "hey VIDEOGAMES!" presentation that to me was like nails on a chalkboard. I highly doubted that the story was going to be worth suffering through it and after looking at the plot summary on Wikipedia I stand by that conviction.

Older one I gave up on the Gamecube was Super Mario Sunshine, got to the final level just before the final boss fight. Couldn't do the boat part on the lava, I've tried now and then over the years and just never seem to be able to get to the end. Very frustrating when you're within touching distance (and the final boss fight looks v.easy!)

I think some of you have missed the point of this topic, it is to cover off the reasons for giving up on the current game you are playing before starting the next. It is not "the game you gave up on 2 years ago and the reason why".

Yes?

Fine, Star Fox Adventures and it's because I keep getting bored of it.

But if we are waiting around for that to happen it could be a while before anyone posts. It's likely I wont give up on anything for a while.

At least this way there's plenty of posts in the mean time to keep the thread alive.

If you see the amount of games some people have on Steam you'll realise there is a constant supply of cannon fodder for this topic.

Steam libraries are more 'Games you bought and will likely never play'.

I've stopped playing a lot of games on my steam list for reasons that would be uninteresting to discuss; losing interest to the point of not wanting to carry on or the game being inoffensively rubbish. Multiply that through several other people and it becomes a short and boring conversation. Its more interesting to talk about games that were memorably given up on; either through spectacular ragequitting or some other interesting/funny reason. Creating a thread doesn't mean you maintain some sort of authority over its direction or lets you chastise people for "doing it wrong".

Fire Emblem Fates: Revelations

Having completed both Birthright and Conquest I moved straight on to Revelations. I only have about four or five missions to go, but each one started to introduce some stupid gimmick that after 230+ hours I just got a bit jaded and abandoned it. Might go back at some point, as I did the same with Awakening and finished that off at a later date.
