It's sad to think there probably won't be a third game, I mean where could it possibly go now? Totally different characters maybe but the Joel /Elle story is finished so either new characters in a different environment, maybe Europe or Britain (imagine it set Scotland, we don't all speak in an accent that's not undetstandable). So either that or a shameless cash in with a contrived story. It wouldn't be right without you know who.

A prequel wouldn't work as it would just be basic enemies.

It would be nice to see how the rest of the world is handling things.
They could even have the game split into various regions.

Completely disagree, I'd be shocked if there isn't a third game. Sony are clearly massively invested in the IP-there's a TV show coming, a remake of the first game and I believe Neil Druckmann has already said he has an outline of the story.

Ellie and Abby are clearly going to get caught up in some firefly shenanigans.

I reckon it'll end with Ellie sacrificing herself because they find another surgeon.

We are clearly getting a final end to Ellie’s arc. Be that something’s done with her Immunity or she dies (or both, I feel her arc ends with her death).

Not a chance ND doesn’t carry on the story

Finished again. The ending really is a bit of a mess though the final cutscene is the best bit of the last 10 hours. Opinion on the game hasn’t changed much. It’s fantastic obviously but is held back in my opinion by not playing with the gameplay systems more and making more use of the theming of the zones. The story tries to be overly emotional and at every crux point between an interesting angle and a samey bloodlust one it universally picks the latter to the stories detriment.

I’d take a third game in a second but unless they handed the reigns to someone other than Drukman I can’t help but 5ink it would just be continuing diminishing returns.

That last cutscene is only the second time of cried at a game. First time was FF7: Crisis Core  it's so good though. It's like you have 10 hours of all this horror and tension and then that cutscene is such a bitter sweet emotional release.

I don't want her to die. I just can't see her story ending any other way. How could she seek out the fireflies again, knowing she's immune and then be like "strawberry float you guys I ain't helping you"

Wasn't it said that it wouldn't matter now - Joel killed the only surgeon/scientist left who had the skills and know-how to develop a cure.

Well maybe they find another one and she has to make a choice.

Could be like "oh we heard there was this guy down in ol Mexico/Canada. Cue road trip.

Been playing through this at a fair cop this week, but don't think I'm very far in. Left it at the flashback with Joel and will probably put some hours in over the weekend.

First thoughts are that it's bloody gorgeous, but the first couple of hours of walking simulator did start to get on my wick. I'd have really liked a chance to walk around the base and get to know people a bit more or just feel like it's more of a community, but I guess they're going for something more narratively linear and focused on Elli rather than world-building immersion for 'you' the character.

Combat is as satisfying as it was in the first one, and my old technique of stealthing as much as I can then reverting to boom boom pow tactics when rumbled/overwhelmed has served me well so far.

So far the narrative hasn't quite got its claws into me but I'm assuming that the general theme being hinted at is revenge bad, but we'll see. It's been a long time since I played the first one so can't quite remember the finer details of the characterisation of the main players, but maybe the whole point is that these aren't quite the characters you remember, and they've been traumatised in the interim.

If it starts out on a level it gets a lot better! I liked the combat in the first game, especially in how contextual everything is, but TLOU2's combat is a definite step-up in both mechanics and encounter design.

The pace of the opening is very slow. I didn't have a problem with it on my first playthrough, but after watching it a second time I now wish all of the walking scenes could be skipped like cutscenes so I could just replay the game for its encounters. The playtime could be halved.

Still cracking my way through this and it feels a bit bloated.

I do like the set pieces and trying to figure my route through but for a game with such heavy emotional storytelling and themes there can be overly long sequences between the story beats. I've been playing the Abby sequence for about an hour or so and I get what they're going for, but I think there was far too much Ellie sequence preceding it. It's very good, but I think it lacks some impact because the game was so adamant that I do things their way that the REVERSAL OF FORTUNE moment felt a bit cheap. I get that this isn't an RPG and I'm not playing 'my' story and am very much guiding Ellie through hers, but there was a sequence earlier on where I'm clubbing Nora to death and I had to do a sort of QTE to land each blow which I really didn't want to do and so I left it for a while thinking maybe it'd give me the option to stop but it never did. So I felt conflicted but not in an interesting way, because the game was telling me to do this stuff and not giving me an option not to, and then turning around and telling me off for it. Playing the Abby section and having the game rub my face in how awful I am and I'm just like;

Like, I get that this is very much meant to be Ellie's story but it's a bit dissonant when I'm made to play a certain way and then get told off for it.

That image choice

I never felt personally told off as a player. I think your view on things is supposed to change as you are made to empathise through restricted perspectives of whoever is playable, but you're never in a position to make a choice as a player so there is nothing to feel responsible for - other than your support and desire for things to happen (but I think that aligment of desire with Ellie is already broken before the end of her side of things, Nora being a major moment for that).

That's exactly how I felt when I played it on release, and I felt like the only one!

I didn't enjoy that sequence either.

No reason for there to be a button prompt.

If anything there should have been a prompt for you to fight Ellie's rage but then it still wins out.
