This would come over a lot better (here at least) if it were announced as $10 DLC, alongside a new GOTY edition that includes the DLC.

The new content should surely be the headline, not the remastering!

Thanks. Fair play that's not so bad then.

Though I hear it’s more violent than the original, which is what put me off it originally.

Exactly where I am, Christopher. I don't have it on PS4 and I'd like to get a physical copy on PS5... but I suspect it'll be £60+.

But, yeah, I'm gradually remembering that some of the violent scenes are why I didn't get it on PS4. Although I was impressed by the excellent accessibility options and I like the idea of new scenes and a rogue mode.

Definitely/maybe.

"It's so violent."

What? I must have missed the Teddy bear tea party scene in the first game where clickers enjoy a cup of tea and a lemon slice with Joel and Ellie.

... . Hehe, yeah, I know it seems odd, really, but I saw clips of - IIRC - a couple of stabbing scenes in Part II that looked a bit too graphic for my tastes. I find it more noticeable when it's a person being attacked rather than a zombie/monster.

Basically what they’ve done with Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima directors cuts. Seems like the sweet spot.

Oh it is violent. But this a certain trope for this kind of genre (The Walking Dead, etc)

I supposed I'm more pissed off that Naughty Dog, one of my favourite developers, have done nothing new ever since TLoU Part 2. It's all remakes or remasters. Yet I know I'll nab that upgrade. Part of the problem, I suppose.

It is more violent though. It has some pretty extreme torture scenes. It can be gruelling at times.

I can totally understand people being okay with the first but finding the second too brutal, to be honest.

By all accounts Naughty Dog have a new IP coming (a fantasy game) and TLOU3 is without a doubt at some stage of development.

People get annoyed about remasters but I highly doubt this is taking much away from their Sony's new releases. I'd be more up in arms at the money Sony is throwing at Live Service games which is delivering very little and could have been invested in bolstering their first party lineup.

This did take me a little by surprise, as I was already under the assumption that TLOU2 had already gotten a PS5 patch, or was that for 60fps only?

Yeah, the earlier PS5 update just enabled 60 FPS, Robbo.

For a studio that used to be so reliable at producing interesting, varied, vibrant, exciting new experiences to be to be reduced to just reheating the same thing over and over for a decade is incredibly depressing.

Almost as depressing as how readily everyone seems to lap it up

I really liked the first game on PS3, so it’s inexplicable that I haven’t played the sequel or any of the remakes.

Yeah, Naughty Dog have focused on two major franchises this past ten years:

2013 The Last of Us - PlayStation 3
2014 The Last of Us: Left Behind - PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4
2014 The Last of Us Remastered - PlayStation 4
2016 Uncharted 4: A Thief's End - PlayStation 4
2017 Uncharted: The Lost Legacy - PlayStation 4
2020 The Last of Us Part II - PlayStation 4
2022 Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection - PlayStation 5, Windows
2022 The Last of Us Part I - PlayStation 5
2024 The Last of Us Part II Remastered - PlayStation 5

That track record for two popular series is pretty solid output, though. Before this, their two main franchises were Crash Bandicoot and Jack & Daxter, each of which took up all of Naughty Dog's time for a few years.

This looks pretty decent output to me with modern development times. Obviously we're still waiting for them to turn up properly on PS5 though.
