Why is it going to be harder at 50 than at 35, Hexx? I like enemies leveling with you, but only in side quests.

Bosses level with you, and get some crazy new attacks.

Can't be as bad as encountering a T-Rex early on in FFVIII surely?

:fp:

The game limits your leaders, but some quests (including one linked to an achievement) means you have to have leader in you party...

Normally they just have better stats, but giving them new and more powerful attacks is pure evil.

Realy enjoying this so far - surprised at how much I seem to be getting on wth the battle system, as confusing as it looked, it's quite simple really and the tuts give you enough info to get into it, plus it's so much better then the crap systems from square's last two outings (FFXII and UI)

One problem is the whole fantasy settings, i'm so sick to death with it that it's stopping me from caring about the story or characters - something from FF8 or even a cyberpunk setting would be so much better now *yawn*

Admittedly the story does contain some truly tiresome elements, such as Rush's sister. Frankly, if I was him I'd just punch her lights out, leave her to her captors and run off with David, but - hey - I've got a queer eye for the straight guy.

In terms of the combat system, I do like it. It's a fairly honest turn-based mechanism and reminds me a lot of the way LotR:The Third Age played (except there you could control each character individually - which I prefer). Enemies levelling up with you makes the whole game infinitely more challenging and I approve. But am getting my ass handed to me on a plate, despite having a BR of 45 now. So, back to the grinding up, then... :(

Well that's every single sidequest done (the bar tender tells me to stop asking if anythings happening in the world) and battle rank 60. (I assume more side quests come in disc 2 :P)

It got a bit silly towards the end - even the bosses (including 2 "achievement bosses", which should be super-hard) died in about 2 turns, and all my characters yelled the "These enemies are so weak" battlecry  . The "enemies level up with you" system doesn't seem to make sense, or be consistent.

The side quests get more varied as you go on, and some of them in a "series" form nice little side bars (Mephlina was cool). Also some of the rewards as brill. I don't think there's anything my Rush can't do (I didn't even know there was a bomb power :D), and I've now got a flaming shield twice as powerful as anything else I can obtain 8-)

One annoyane : you get a "blackout" synergy power, that affects all enemies on board. Now normally you can fire it like any limit break, but if you select "Go all out" (i.e. every unit uses an Art in a massive attack) the synergy can sometimes fire. Which can be really annoying if you're trying focus your attack on a boss etc.

Now to go try Hell's gate again...

(Edit. Largest Chain - 370, most enemies in one battle 43 8-) )

Curse and Self Destruct are the cheapest, brokenest moves ever.

Wow the fight at Blackdale is f'n dirty. Every single enemy attacked my main unions whilst the back up two spent their tme fighting th boss, meaning I had 6 unions attacking my main team. 4 attempts at this fight now this has happened everytime, becuase of the AI i'm left being attacked from behind and flanked everytime because there's too many teams taking me on. The AI unions are utterly gooseberry fool

I thought Blackdale was easy...

Is this still when you only have control of the one union, and the others (David etc) are Guest?

Yeah. It would be very easy if every enemy stopped attacking me only and the other two stopped attackign the boss (who heals every turn making their attacks fuetile)

If the Ai attackedo ther enemies, their numbers owuld drop and less would attack me, meaning we could gt a win - but i don't know if this is gimped or no. I've tried two different union teams and i've tried a single one. Eitehr way I have no protection. Which is annoying as right up till this fight it's been a peice of piss. I know what to do, it's just not letting me do it sadly (only tactic left for me to do is the cheap spend every turn healing and hope the main boss dies ends the fight so we can jsut move on)

No DLC released today! Gold membership and everything yet nothing! :x

Here's how I did Blackdale just to give this a bit more sense -

First off go hire the two leaders from the guild and the third one from a pub subquest just to give you some numbers. Put this union in the arrow formation. Target one union and use combat arts (not magic) all the time against them. You'll need to be destroying unions in about one or two turns. If you can't get them all down without getting killed go get your leaders leveled up. Once they're out of the way heal up and then get stuck into the boss again always using special attacks. Should make it a bit easier.

DLC is up btw

btw - i was using your stratergy in every fight, it was just the AI only attacked the boss, where as every other enemy attacked my two unions. So, I made only one union and attacked the boss, this f'n time the AI took on every other group, did it in about 3 turns I think lol The game reverts back to being rather easy (though the side quest for Emma, that boss was a bugger with the curse affects)

The first challenge pack, Purgatory Sins, leads the charge on 1st December. It's free, and contains some tricksy guild tasks to fulfil, requiring "adequate game progression", apparently.

Players will be offered the keys to the Ancient Ruins on the same day, also for free. Silver Xbox Live members will have to wait until 8th December for both of these.

No point going to Ancient Ruins yet. I haven't played since the weekend, and am gonna be hard pressed to play until Sunday, and then PoP will take priority.

Anywhere got a list of the guild tasks? Are they for each guild?

I've downloaded it but haven't played TLR since Monday (curse you DW6!). Planning to have a nice long run through to catch up with everyone.

For those of you who have it installed to the HDD:

Do you still have to change discs?

As far as I'm aware yes you do.

Downloaded the DLC but haven't got the keys to the ancient ruins so I assume that's a disc 2 only thing right?

I got my copy from Play.com today, any tips for a newbie?

Loving the game so far but I was a little bit annoyed to be thrown into a fight with very little explanation of what to do. Still early days but I love the combat and tactics but even with a 360 Install, some of the texture pop-in can be a little jarring. All fun so far!

Does this game have missable quests/items and such? Just wondering as I'm about to set off through the Ivory plains without doing missions from Emma and this old rich guy. Not because I want to rush ahead, because I can't actually do these missions without being brutally murdered.

I'd say I'm enjoying the game so far but I really can't wait to get my 120gb harddrive for christmas so I can install it which hopefully removes the horrible loading, stutter and popup textures on characters.
