The 1st season is 10 episodes. It's been renewed for a 2nd season.

Reviews for the whole season - http://www.metacritic.com/tv/the-leftov ... ic-reviews

AV Club - A
on the whole, it’s elegiac, ingenious television, unlike anything else on the air. It has elements of mystery, like Lost, and it has elements of satire, like Perrotta’s novels, but it’s also its own thing, a weird art film and character piece that also features large packs of feral dogs running wild.

Hitflix - A
Many will hate it. But there will be viewers in whom it strikes a chord so deeply that they will feel themselves overwhelmed by it in the best possible way: not like they're drowning in the misery, but like it's teaching them a new way to breathe.

Washington Post - B+

The show delivers on an exceedingly intriguing premise, with some of the most beguilingly morose performances delivered this year. It’s a strange but good wallow.

Entertainment Weekly - B
As a meditation on grief, The Leftovers can be oppressive.... As a mystery, however, it's gripping.

Huffington Post - 70%
The Leftovers is interesting television, even if, in the early going, it's not quite sure of what it wants to be or where it wants to go.

Variety - 50%
Despite a big-name cast that includes Amy Brenneman and Liv Tyler, at times feels like less than the sum of its parts. At least initially, the series is driven largely by its tone (Max Richter’s score is especially helpful in that regard), and it’s bound to make people think, which is by itself something of an accomplishment.

Thanks to TheOddOne at GAF for the fancy graphics.

Damon Lindelof's televisual return is something I will definitely watch. Good reviews so far too.

Unfortunately Sky Atlantic have moved the premiere date to Autumn 2014.

That's utterly bizarre for them.

Yep, the Sky Atlantic thing is weird. Maybe to avoid the World Cup or slow summer months. Looking ahead it seems to be the only big new HBO drama this year so it'll probably be advertised every ad break for 2 months.

Sky Atlantic doesn't get high ratings as it is though and that's when the shows are broadcast close to the US air date.

Very excited for this, hope it's good. Reviews seem to be mainly either average or amazing so I'm guessing it'll be quite a marmite show.

Is it wrong to worry that with Lindelof involved it's just going to be Lost mk.2? Starts off great, descends into absolute shite when they actually have to start explaining things happening in the story.

Plus Liv Tylor :dread: :dread: :dread:

Yep, for that reason I won't be watching. Trailer looks good but his involvement in Lost/Prometheus means I don't trust this guy.

Did they say how long a season is?

They've been pretty upfront in saying that the focus won't be on explaining why or how it happened but rather on the human drama that resulted. I sincerely hope that is the case.

But if it gets popular and gets multiple seasons, they'll eventually have to start exploring some of the how and why. And just like Lost because they don't have a plan for it from the beginning, they'll make it up as they go along and it will be shite.

It's adapted from a book which has already been published.

With Lost they built the whole show around the mysteries and drew people in with them without any intention of ever explaining. Even up to the final weeks of the show all the promo was about solving the mysteries then after the finale they just gooseberry fool on everyone with "it was about the characters the whole time". Knowing that some idiots would go with that garbage.

This time he is upfront that it isn't about the mystery but what results from it. So it will be a different feel from the start.

Yo 8-)

I was fine with it being all about the characters and liked the finale because of that, but of course I totally get why people were disappointed.

Can't be arsed watching this if they can't even explain why the dissapearances happened. Lost was the biggest pile of garbage ever released. :dread:

It saddens me that HBO cancel Boardwalk Empire yet fund this rubbish. :|

You've decided it's rubbish before you've even watched it? HBO cancelled Boardwalk Empire because it was generally ignored by viewers and the showrunner wanted to do a new show about rock and roll in the 70s.

Well the fact that they've admitted they arent going to explain it means im not watching it, cos that would bug the gooseberry fool out of me just like Lost.

I know the main lad has moved onto a rock and roll show but maybe he could have had a hand in where it went for the next 2/3 seasons.

I don't mind the show not explaining things as long as the rest of it is satisfying. It's only 10 episodes long, it's HBO and most importantly it looks interesting. I'm on board.
