Why is everyone saying this is going to be cancelled? Have HBO said as much or is it just performing badly?

HBO haven't said anything but its ratings are appalling. I've just looked at Wikipedia and no episode in season 2 got over a million viewers. The average was about 600K.

AV Club summed it up:

Nobody is watching The Leftovers. Like, seriously nobody is watching it. “International Assassin” was beaten in its time slot by an episode of Law And Order: SVU. Not a first-run episode, not a sweeps-month crossover with Chicago [Insert Municipal Service], just a regular old repeat on USA, perhaps an episode where Olivia and Munch have to pose as a married couple to infiltrate a dog-fighting ring or some gooseberry fool.

Anyone else think it would have been cool if the song used in the karaoke was the theme tune for season 2? Would explain away the strawberry floating dreadful tune and give it some purpose at least :dread:

I was so sure that was what it was going to be. Apparently though Lindelof wanted it to be Like a Prayer but they couldn't get the rights. The theme tune really grew on me over the season though and I prefer it to season one's now.

The theme tune grew on me in some sort of weird 'why the strawberry float am I having a hoedown sing-a-long to this madness' kind of way, but let's not pretend it could ever compare to the suspenseful piece (dat final note :datass:) used to introduce episodes in the first season.

I can understand why people don't want to watch it. Today's successful television is about fast-paced action, gore and simplified storytelling. The Leftovers is very much not that.

I thought that was a bloody masterful finale! It's like Lost, but with some of the weird stuff actually being explained. I will be gutted if this gets canned.

Couldn't help but laugh when he ended up in that hotel hell again!

That intro music is shockingly out of tone for the show. I'm not saying it should have walking dread DUN DUN DUUNNNNN going on but it was just terrible. Imagine someone tuning in for the first time and hearing that gooseberry fool, if it was me I would have probably been put off there and then.

Excellent news that will slightly soften the loss of Westworld.

Annoyed HBO didn't cancel this sooner, they ruined Boardwalk Empire but let this wank continue.

Like I said on page 1 of this thread two years ago, Boardwalk Empire was cancelled because nobody watched it and the showrunner wanted to make a music show set in the 70s. Vinyl completely bombed.

Season 2 of The Leftovers was a masterpiece and better than anything Boardwalk Empire ever did.

Photek. :dread:

Not too long to go until S3, I've little doubt it'll go out on a high after how amazing S2 was.

This opinion is so awful that I've cancelled an order for that Ark game you're currently singing the praises of. You're so wrong about this that I have no faith that game is actually any good.
