Just found my way through the Lost Woods and picked up the Master Sword :datass:

How many shrines are there in this? I've got 53 so far, and a couple of Shrine Quests I haven't done yet.

Gonna try and polish off a few more side quests before I carry on with the story. One of the Koroks said there's a bunch of Shrines in these woods, so I'll see if I can find those first :shifty:

Just went into one of those "Major Test of Strength" combat shrines, and I've discovered that the one-hit-kill-on-any-enemy ancient arrows do absolutely pitiful damage to those stupid little guardians? Why? Like the game has these rules for weapons and then just decides to ignore them when it wants to? How on earth did anyone think these Guardians were a good idea. They're just lazy.

I don't mind about the weapon degradation, but heading towards my third divine beast I'm still not actually finding this combat very fun. Why can some base moblin still take six hearts off me with a single attack, when I can attack them with the same weapon and barely scratch it? :dread:

Are you shooting the arrow in to the guardian's eye? Because that's the only place where they do the huge damage on those - just hitting it somewhere won't do it.

And it's called a major test of strength because it's supposed to be hard. You need to employ a lot of tricks to beat them, flurry rushes, dodging, parrying, arrows to the weak spots etc. Remember you can leave them and come back when you're better prepared.

Yeah but the second paragraph wasn't explicitly on about those shrines.

Ah ok. I'm not sure what it's connected to, but the game starts to introduce harder variants of enemies as you progress (they are different colours). These deal more damage and take more, so need to be tackled with the higher level gear.

It just seems like there's too many systems working behind the scenes that you've got no control over. I shouldn't be able to obliterate the bosses in the beasts without trouble but get crippled by a moblin with some crappy lance.

I get that you can brew stuff to temporarily raise your defence/attack but surely as you progress those should be increasing on their own anyway, but they don't. It just makes what little increases you can get off the great fairies even less effective.

I'm still enjoying it, mind you. I'm just avoiding conflicts where I can.

Is there a chance you've progressed through the game faster than you've levelled up? I'm not having a go or being a dick; just wondering if you've done the first two Beasts before you've reached a high enough level.

I ask that without knowing what makes the game trigger the harder enemies, in fairness. Don't know if it goes on story progression or your character level. I'm assuming it must be the former, otherwise you could blitz through the whole show without developing your character stats at all.

Does Link actually level up? I've done 64 shrines, two divine beasts, and I've just got the Master Sword.

Tried to use the Great Fairies as much as I can, too (purely because I knew the combat was going to be a bit of a twat :shifty: ). Just found one that wants 10,000 rupees though :dread: No chance, love.

I meant more doing the shrines to unlock as much stamina and health as possible, I guess. I've become almost paranoid about developing both before taking anything on.

What's your overall defence level, just out of interest? I'm on my second beast at the moment, I have two full stamina wheels and nine hearts. Defence level 24. Would be interested to know how that compares to other people's progress in the game.

I think (currently sat at work so will confirm later) I've done 2 Divine Beasts, around 75 shrines and have 2 & 4/5 stamina and 13 hearts. Got a few orbs to spend so that'll be up to 3 stamina wheels and as many hearts as my current orb allowance allows. Armour varies from 27 (stealth armour) to 54 (soldier armour), normally at 36 as I wear the Hylian stuff normally. Not had chance to upgrade my champions tunic yet. Got the 3rd great fairy but I won't be getting the 4th for a while yet.

I think it's fair that the moblins, also considering that they go from red to blue to black, white etc do more damage with petty weapons because they're giant bloody minotaurs! They're supposed to remain for foreboding throughout the game, and they are slow so it's about outmanoeuvring them. It's the same in all Zelda games.

I'm actually at 80 shrines completed, 12 orbs to spend (so one stamina and two hearts when I next upgrade).

Armour I wear does range between 27 and 36, soldier being the high at 54 but I rarely wear that (I probably should do really!).

Sounds like you need to level your kit up, if you've done 64 shrines your health and stamina must be pretty good.

The 10,000 rupees is money well spent. Maybe you need to think about monetisation a bit more too.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

I'm stomping around the cold section in the Northwest of the map, so my defence isn't as good as normal (29 at the moment, if I'm remembering right) but my entire outfit is currently at least two star (think my jacket is three?). The numbers go up but you barely see a benefit.

Any advice on monetisation, too? I'm trying to collect luminous rocks to swap for diamonds but is there a quicker way? Internet suggests selling food and the snowball minigame, but I'm not a good hunter.

Invest in stealth armour (may have done already), get within throwing range of animals (some are easier than others) and use bombs to kill them so you're not using any items to get the meat. When you've built up a nice collection head to a cooking pot and cook 5 bits of meat together (try to get the better quality meat cooked together to give a better end result). Don't remember exactly but I think depending on the quality of the meat it ranges between 210 and 120. Probably not the quickest way overall but considering how you can just play the game normally, killing animals as you play and then spend a bit of time to make money.

I think you're in the region with the snowball mini game, think there's a way to gaurantee the top prize of 300 each time but I can't remember without looking it up.

Hope that helps.

I feel terrible killing things, though. I just tend to get revenge on the bastard goats that charge me. Will be a little harsher now, then.

Just landed on Eventide Island :dread: This can only end well.

#Pray4Frank

EDIT: Two orbs down. Just the Hinox orb to go... :dread: Does the game notice when you're doing particular things and then... stop you doing them? Had a Bokoblin shooting at me with a bow, so I stood just out of range and then collected the arrows, but after the fourth one every subsequent arrow just bounced away and disappeared. Disappointing.
