I tried that, it just doesn't work. The gamepad the reasons I stopped last time as it was too cumbersome.

I have got to the point where I have almost completed everything worthwhile and wondering if I should just head off to the castle and finish things. I should probably just get it over with before I lose all interest.

Is the final part of the game difficult that I need to back a whole bunch of food and potions or can you beat it without too much preparation?

There are a lot of guardians, but as long as you're halfway decent at shield parries, you should be fine.

To be safe, bring along a few fairies and some cooked hearty durians.

I'm rubbish at partying guardians so I did a lot of running, for the most part it's not too difficult though. I had the unfortunate situation of facing my first Lynel there after running from them for the entirety of my Wii U play through, so that took a lot of my health items but I found I didn't need them for Ganon really except one or two.

Or just grab the Ancient Shield. Parrying made p**s-easy.

I think I'm at a similar point to Meep. I've got only a few side-quests remaining and found 118 shrines. Got one memory left which the painter guy told me is in the castle, so I might as well go there next.

I found the ending to be ridiculously easy in this, if you've visited 100 odd shrines and have halfway decent gear I can't imagine anyone struggling.

If you climb the castle in the right way you can also pretty much avoid all the enemies before Gannon anyway!

So I just got the credits on this.

The map of the castle looked way too complicated to explore whilst all the guardians and the other bellends were taking aim at me; so I climbed up to where the Ganon battle was marked and beat him first time in the hope that I'll now be able to explore the castle in peace.

Yeah... Since the game is never actually 'finished', the world will never reach the state of 'the new world'.
In other words, enjoy being blasted to pieces by Guardians.

Fucksake

Edit: Yeah I think I'm probably done now. I see the game adds a counter for the various quests it asks of you and I've done most of everything. My profile says I've been at it for 115 hours or more. Pretty good.

Most of the castle is inside, where there are no guardians, and there is some really cool stuff to discover. It's the best "dungeon" in the game so I'd strongly recommend you give it a proper explore.

You can get the Hylian shield there, and some cool lore stuff about zelda, plus dlc chests are hidden around

I have wandered around inside a fair amount, through the hallways etc. I managed to locate the final memory I needed and there's a pretty cool room with lots of high calibre weapons, though I already had them. I have a couple of remaining side quests that revolve around the castle so I might go back to it today and try to finish those.

I just have trouble with the map.

I think I agree with this, and suspect it's partly because it actually has extensive indoor sections (compared with the persistent open-air of the rest of the game which is lovely but later feels a little flat and samey, homogenizing the world I think because it isn't punctuated by indoors etc I think) and also because it has full-bodied (and great) music. Both reasons are partly why whenever I whip the game out for a blast I go for a mess about in Korok Forest.

It's also a relief to here proper Zelda Theme stuff. One thing that surprised me in the game is how underused the main theme is - you only really here it in the final (final) battle and it's so effective I wish there'd been more of it earlier.

Contrast this with (say) Fi's theme or the main theme in Skyward Sword which are used as motifs throughout. I know BotW is going for atmospherics and sparse, scattered piano-notes to evoke the half-forgotten memories of a lost world etc etc

But I want rousing music sometimes.

The Ganon/Castle theme was VGM porn. Just so good.

I did end up having a wander around inside the castle, found a couple of neat weapons and the Hylian Shield. Also managed to polish off the two 'Royal' side-quests I had, found my second to last shrine and then spent the best part of an hour walking around Gerudo portion of the game looking for my last shrine.

Headed off to the Forgotten Temple for the bonus suit and bought another couple. For the time being I'm done. I've got 2 suits left to obtain and 5 side-quests which I haven't located.

120 hours well spent.

So I went back and did the five side-quests I was missing. Pretty much 100% done aside from two costumes.
