I started playing this at the weekend but I was off my head. I couldn't get out of the first building. I wanted my first glimpse of the outside world but I just couldn't find it.

I'll try again this week (sober).

Glad it won me 500 rupees I spent trying to win the peice of heart.

Just got the second song, going to head off to the next area later.

Was that the boss for the first flame? If so yes.

Koloktos was one of my favourite bosses in the game. Some genius mechanics in that fight :D In fact I liked him so much that I named my last Star Trek Online ship after him, although it will soon be retired like the USS Groose and the USS Shortpants :( *salutes*

Ive played a bit more of this now. Like it despite some annoyances with the game;

I dont think the motion controls work too well with some of the more perhaps complex moves. I know i want to do a stabbing motion or the spin attack but the movement doesnt seem to always register. This can cause problems against some of the main enemy encounters. Which leads onto another point - up until you get a certain atime heart refills seem to be alot more scarce. Also bug catching is sometimes awkward, leading to my poor link flailing around with the net looking like a bit of a gimp.

I also dont like the bug/item collecting and upgrading. Its not explained very well at all, which is strange for a nintendo game. Theres little scope for experimentation with it either.

Also there seems to be alot of "useless" empty houses and rooms in the main hub that dont serve a purpose. Im hoping that there will be one later, but i dont see it happening. I also dont know if the map will open up, but there is a sparseness of population of the rest of the map, I might be spoiled by skyrim, but i dont really like it. I do like side quests but somekind of a log would be useful, its a bit of a test of memory as to where to pick up on them following easily forgotten cryptic clues. Maybe im used to the more "hand holding" approach in skyrim. Something like the diary in MM would have been a good addition.

Also the camera is sometimes is bad - too low an angle, too close an angle, not well centred and following behind link. Can lead to alot of unnecessary frustrations in certain sections/aspects of the game. It sometimes seems to me like a backward step from mario64 and banjo kazooie where you had alot more control over the camera.

I dont like the dowsing. I dont think that its necessary and given the nature of some maps/linear paths, it can be inaccurate and misleading at times. Coupled with the occasional contrived puzzle and level design progress can be frustrating.

The new inventory management is also different, i think i am at the point where it might start to become annoying. I will see how i get on with it. Im not sure that having bottles and bags as extra items is something that i will like.

But other than that i do like the the game. It is drawing me in although the dungeons maybe small, they do give a long path through them as well as the interesting incidental lead in areas. The story is also intriguing. I like the variation in enemies and there are some interesting new weapons.

Have you been there at night? You're probably going to the houses of the shop owners and stuff.

Not really. You're mostly meant to wet yourself over how twee and magical everything is at night.

I've gone exploring around at night just to talk to people. I think I'm about midway through the game and I know there must be more night stuff coming up as:

Random island I found spoilers:

Beedle's Island says you can visit him at night and he'll give you something, but I still can't fly at night so I guess I get something I can fly with.

You may not have noticed, but there's a bed in Beedle's flying shop...

I completed the game about two weeks ago - easily my GOTY 2011. My children had been watching me play it since Christmas (they actually preferred it to CBeebies) despite having to run out of the room when some of the scarier monsters came on (they're only four years old). They were so distraught when I finished it (my daughter was sobbing- the ending is rather bitter-sweet) that I've had to buy them plush Link figures, and I've promised them I'll buy a 3DS so they can watch me play Ocarina Of Time.

Personally I loved the controls - playing the Wii version of Twilight Princess made me wish I'd bought the GameCube version, but after Skyward Sword I never want to go back to mashing the 'A' button - at least as far as LOZ games are concerned.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

My 4yr old son watched me play through most of the game too. He's absolutely Zelda mad now. After we finished it we even had to go to Game so he could get the Guide book for a fiver so he could look through all the story pictures again. He's desperate to play Wind Waker, but I can't find my gamecube pad to play it through the Wii. He's getting quite into Xenoblade now though :)

Ditto :) My lad has had a Link plushie since he was 2 (to go with Sackboy, Mario, DK, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Yoshi and Toad) and when I play he loves to watch. He laughs his head off at the squawk if I crash the Loftwing into a rock. Best of all he gets a second controller, plugs in a nunchuk and pretends to play along

I think GAME sell white gamecube compatible controllers in-store if you're looking for them, although I think they're GAME branded rather than the official Nintendo ones.

Cheers Shawks. Just done some searching and Play have something called a Venom controller which goes into the cube ports on the Wii - just over a fiver. I'll check out Game at weekend and see if its the same price.

Will make my lad's day :)

Finished it yesterday. Amazing game!

Most of the sidequests require you to switch between day and night at least once. All of the shopkeepers are at home at night, and have some sort of assignment for you. Also within the Knight Academy, some things only happen at night...

About 9 hours in now, didn't start it until recently, but it is full of some lovely ideas. The flying sections seem pretty jarring and the time delay in between island hopping spoils the continuity of the game and makes it feel less epic. This is obviously down to the limitations of the hardware, however the art direct is pretty good and would be even better in HD. So far I am enjoying this more than Twilight Princess and hope it improves even more. I do get a feeling that there are not many sidequests and that is disappointing.

I gave that twats love letter to the ghost in the toilet, do I ever get anything for doing that?
