Last boss/ second to last boss spoilers.

Grahirm again. strawberry float off Zelda, seriously. Again I can't beat him, I guess you have to jump to the side when he does his thurst attack and then do your thrust attack at his gem? Well I couldn't do that once. I might just watch the ending on Youtube.

Just watch the explanation video from the Gossip Stone next to the Knight Academy. He's not very difficult when you know what you're doing.

Have you gone through the entire game without learning to parry with your shield?

There must be a non-shield method for when your shield breaks though, surely?

It's possible to avoid him without getting hit.

I looked at videos to kill the last bosses. I just wanted the game to end. You can do it without a shield.

How do you use it? Flip the nunchuck forwards? I thought back flipping to dodge was a much easier way to not get hit by enemies.

Parrying with your shield leaves them open to a counter-attack. You can also parry with your sword against most (if not all) enemies, though it's much more difficult.

To be fair, parrying and then doing the forward jab with the sword in a split second isn't exactly easy, definitely takes practice. Found that part of the final battle vs. Girahim to be the most difficult, whereas Demise was pretty easy. If you upgrade your items and take a good stock of potions you'll be alright though.

The goddess shield regenerates its health bar constantly and faster when you succesfully parry, combine that with a good supply of potions and you'll get through it.

I just finished it this evening and I'm a little torn on just how good it was, but I definitely enjoyed it.

As a whole, its a great game. The dungeon design is the best in the series by some distance, the 7th dungeon in particular is absolutely superb. I also loved how each area leading to the dungeon was basically a dungeon itself, yes it made the game fairly intensive but it made you work each step of the way and it was refreshing to see so many fresh ideas, not a torch lighting puzzle in sight! Some of the new items in particular were great and I hope they'll be reappearing in future Zelda titles.

Graphically I loved the style and its really stunning at times, makes the best of the Wii's hardware and I think the half-half cel shaded look works really well, feels like the right fit for the series. Would love to see the same style put out in HD, could be absolutely gorgeous. Music wasn't quite as memorable overall as some Zelda games but still, typically excellent and I loved the main theme.

One of my main qualms however lay in the motion control which, as I expressed several times throughout this thread, I found to be inconsistent in how well they worked. Its frustrating to do badly in a game because you're just not that good at it, but when you're struggling to get to grips with an element of the motion control it can be game breaking at times. There's a few times I had to turn it off and walk away because I was getting so frustrated. I know a lot of people have found them flawless, but I know plenty have had their difficulties with them. I for one would like to see Nintendo give the option to the players to turn it and off, therefore if you're stuck (or just plain don't like motion controls) then you don't have to persist with them. Certainly there were some things that I felt didn't really add to the game by being motion-controlled (mine-carts  ) and other elements which I felt weren't as responsive as they should be (or were too sensitive). I also found some moves a little difficult to pull off (the forward jab with the sword for one) and its frustrating when its the only way to defeat some of the games more annoying enemies. Still, the final battle proved to me that if nothing else, motion control can make a world of difference. The intensity and strategy of the final battle wouldn't have been possible without it. Its definitely how I'd like to play Zelda in future, just refined a little more.

My other major issue was that, as many have said, the world felt a bit flat and empty, and it was disappointing to have so much padding and repetition of the same few areas throughout the main body of the game. I get that with the setting, much of Hyrule would be deserted, empty and unpopulated, but one or two other locales would have been nice. Furthermore Skyloft could have had so much more going on, what was there was fun and the characters likeable but there was so little happening that it felt rather lifeless. Then again thats not exclusively a Skyward Sword criticism, Castle Town was as bland as they come in Twilight Princess. Its something I'd really love to see Nintendo work on for the next iteration in the series.

Overall though, despite my frustrations at times with some elements of the control and some of the scenarios in the game, not to mention all the missed opportunities that could have enhanced the experience, I have to say that overall I went away with a big grin on my face and its been a long while since a game has captivated me so. Its not a 10/10 for me because it certainly has its flaws, and a perfect score implies just that, perfection, but its a great game and definitely one of the best on the Wii.

Just finished

Second to last fight was a massive pain in the bollocks until I finally figured out what I had to do in the second phase. The run the gauntlet part with the Matrix style ending before the boss was good fun too.

Last fight spoilers

I was actually finding this fight quite easy until I got careless and my shield broke. I ended up killing Akuma/Demise with one heart to spare and no potions left. Doing that final fatal blow felt bloody amazing because of that  8-)

Skyward Sword has some monumental highs but also some lows (the lead up to Dungeon 4 mainly). The highs greatly outweight the lows though and last section of the game was so good that I feel like jumping straight back into Hero mode. I've too much other stuff to play however so that will have to wait a while.

Also, Groose

I see Schminky went with the "epic" end to the game like I did. Perfect circumstances to complete the game under. I think the entire street heard when I won that battle
