I hope that it's like Dark Souls in that you can go, nearly, anywhere you want but doing so means that the odds of survival are approximately 3720 to 1.

Hopefully they get around that by having as little plot as possible so the game doesn't suffer.

Glad to hear them say they're looking to the original for inspiration, I just hope the main lesson they take from it is to leave out the hand holding. (which they apparently did in Link Between Worlds? I think I may have to get myself a 3DS/2DS just for that, if it's as good as I've heard)

As someone else pointed out: Zelda's cloak, light arrows and nary a sword in sight may well point toward the princess herself. Of course, it could be purposeful misdirection on their part.

Did I hear right that we'll be able to tackle the dungeons in any order?

I'd love it if you played as a character of your own creation all the way through, like how you change the face build etc at the start of skyrim.

Granted most people will just make a link lookalike but it'd still be cool.

As long as I can choose to be an argonian :datass:

No thanks. I'd like Link to have more expression then a dead tree.

I didnt hear this but I think it might be possible. Seems logical to carry on from ALBW but I hope it gets refined further. No renting items please. I'm personally not bothered by doing them in any order because I think it can bring its own set of problems and you end up doing them all in the end anyway.

So, given the scope of this game and the fact that only a 30-second trailer has been shown, this is surely Christmas 2015 and no earlier.

Christmas '15 and a launch title for the Wii U-2.

In seriousness though, I reckon the playable character will be a customisable one. Most games have never explicitly featured a "Link" anyway - you name your save file and that's the name your character is referred to throughout the adventure. This is just one step further and you can pick your clothes, hair, weight, gait etc. as well as your character's name. Bet the developers decided to use this to generate an androgynous-looking Link-/Zelda-esque character so as to keep people guessing.

yep they did this in link between worlds. It was really well done and you could tackle each dungeon in different order ,the dungeons still required certain items and sometimes multiple items but these could be rented or purchased in any order to take on the areas, this also included certain areas not being accessible unless you had the right item. There is also a quick transport system which was brilliant to use but i found i always wanted to wander more in this and discover different areas,it was my favourite Zelda for years.

I'm not sure that it sold well, though. Yes, it's done 2 million but there are 45 million 3DS owners out there, and it dropped off very quickly.

Zelda U has my favourite art style so far. It's a cross between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, almost certainly done as a way of pleasing everyone. It's got the 'realistic' look of TP and the Disney-like effects of WW.

I think he means it's in game rather than actual gameplay.
