I shot a glowing blue bunny and got some rupees. It ran away and I couldn't find it again :(

Nearing the end of this now. Will spend a few more hours just wandering to drag it out a bit more.

Undoubtedly one of the best games I've ever played and single-handedly rekindled my long lost love of gaming.

Got a bit of time on this again last night (for someone who claims to have no time for gaming I sure do magic it out of thin air  ) and went to Zora(?) territory by following this path to their city. Encountered my first thunderstorm and got zapped by lightning :x

It's quite charming, perhaps a bit shallow so far as I'm literally just running around finding/killing stuff, but I'm enjoying it.

I'm not generally one to tell someone "you're playing it wrong!" but...you're playing it wrong. Or at least in a way that is seemingly hiding most of its charm. The joy I'm having from it is just wandering, free from the majority of quests, and finding stuff to do whether that be Korok challenges, recipes and ingredients, weapons, shrines or other puzzles. It's much more than finding and killing stuff.

I don't mean I'm just running around trying to find stuff to kill. I'm running around finding new places to explore and a by-product of that is having to kill any enemies I encounter.

Am I still playing it wrong?

Well you said you were "literally just running around finding/killing stuff" so I was reacting to that. You do have to kill stuff, but it shouldn't be 'literally' all you're doing.

EDIT: Just loaded it up. For 3 hours I ran around doing basically nothing, exploring and scouting out new places. It was serene. What a strawberry floating game.

Just encountered my first lightning storm :o that was awesome. One of the first bolts struck an enemy camp that I was about to attack.

I’m currently on the collecting memories quest, found one so far. Have generally stayed pretty central on the overall map, just opened up the map in which Hyrule Field is in. Had to dodge loads of Guardians as I was looting which took bloody ages.

I've just found the last memory and I'm on over 120 hours of playtime :datass:

Before starting the DLC I think it's now about time I paid Ganonlad a visit an give him a whuppin :toot:

I was just thinking how good an amalgamation of this game's sense of adventure and Witcher 3's narrative strengths would be. My biggest grievances with each of them is solved by the other.

Many of Breath of the Wild's side quests are your generic "collect x" affairs, with little in the way of characterization or reasons to care, and Witcher 3 is the opposite. However, W3 often feels like it doesn't trust the player enough to traverse and piece together the world on their own, with generous and occasionally necessary objective markers as well as a detective mode that dampens the intrigue set up by the excellent writing because it tells you everything and requires no real thought from the player. What BOTW lacks narratively, it more than makes up for with the meticulous open world design, and I love that aside from the general locations of the Divine Beasts, the game hands you very little else. Map reading, noting directions from NPCs, placing pins and remembering landmarks is such a welcome change from the typical open world design trend of shoving map icons down the player's throat. I know there are other games that have done what I'm applauding BOTW for, but I really hope Zelda's success with it as a mainstream, popular series makes it a more common practice going forward.

I'm 45 hours into the game and have only completed Vah Ruta so far. Last saved just outside Gerudo Town and I'm very much looking forward to continuing.

I agree on the quests.

My big wish for Zelda would be for them to use the engine but create a smaller world with better, more focused stories and quests-ie the Majora’s Mask approach.

Totally agree, Dave. I think one of the games that could stand to gain most from being inspired by BOTW would be Red Dead Redemption 2. The original had a similar sort of 'playfulness' to the mechanics, but the overworld was dull as strawberry float with not much else to do than shoot people. Gliding might be bit much for a cowboy game, but they could easily add a ton of rope-based traversal mechanics and a lot more naturally signposted questing rather than just following a glowing marker to the next person you need to kill. I just hope they didn't start development too long ago to be affected by BOTW's release.

Finished this last night.

Didn’t want it to be over :(

is the DLC worth it? I’m not big on collecting things but I noticed one of them had a new dungeon in it.

Imo no. I was very disappointed with both dlc packs - wish I hadn't wasted my money.....

Counter opinion - I've yet to play the 2nd DLC extra dungeon, but I enjoyed the Trial of the Sword in DLC pack 1. It's a good challenge for when you've finished the game.

60+ hours in, all divine beasts done, just hunting for remaining shrines anda very long list of side quests to finish. Some at the castle.

Once you finish does it let you play on or dump you back before taking on the final boss?
Also is your house in the dlc pack?

Dumps you back.

No, your house is a side quest in the original game. You don’t need dlc for it.
