Thats my one gripe with the game, that gear should allow you to climb in the rain, not just climb a bit faster.

It definitely does help with climbing in the rain thanks to the large stamina reduction in climb-jumping - just keep jumping before you slip (which is what every four moves up?). I climbed lots in the rain

The slipping is just an anti-fun measure, it doesn't serve any other purpose. I've been halfway up a mountain, taking a quick break on a ledge and then it starts raining - I'm stuck until the rain passes or if I fast travel away, defeating the point of my trying to scale whatever I'm scaling. It's stupid and unhelpful and should be removed.

Its for realism, in real life stuff is slippery when wet (giggaty) so they have copied that.

Almost every mountain is climbable in the rain, it's meant to make you change your approach. You can also start a fire if you can find shelter to pass the time so it stops raining - although I only ever did this once

This helps but climbing is still a challenge in the rain which can be frustrating. I don't mind too much but I can see why some people are frustrated by this mechanic.

I think getting Revali's Gale is probably most helpful in dealing with this.

How do you change your approach exactly?

I felt the game should have offered more of an alternative way of getting round climbing in the rain. As it is, most players waited it out which isn’t fun.

What would the alternatives be? I guess you could make climbing slower in the rain? Or consume greater stamina?

I don't think I've climbed much in the rain recently but my recollection was that I slipped after every climb-jump.

I don't know I'm not a game designer ;)

Some way of avoiding slipping basically. Consuming greater stamina to "hold on" and avoid slipping could have been an option

Why do they need nother system when they already have the stamina system for climbing in place?

Having spent a considerable amount of time with AC:Origins I can confirm that not having an arbitary anti fun mechanism does not make the game worse.

Yeah, maybe, my bad. Four steps and a single jump gets you up a lot of places I guess.

I mean approach where you're trying to get to from a different direction, there are walkable paths up to most places - like how the duelling peaks have some sheer cliff faces, but have a much more gentle slope from one direction iirc.

Yeah you can run up some pretty sheer bits. Maybe they could have had climbing spikes as an item. Which is an idea actually, imagine scaling a vertical ice wall! Although link can already climb pretty much upside down in places with spider man hands.

I love the fact that blocks of pure ice only become un-climbable after they get wet.

Is it just me or can you not fast travel to towns that you’ve already been to?

I went to the Zora city and had a wander about but didn’t actually do the story mission there, went off on my way to do some adventuring and now I want to go back to Zora HQ and it’s a right ball-ache trekking all the way back along the river. Can’t be arsed.

You can, you just have to visit the shrine first. You don't have to do the shrine either if you want to do other things, just tap it

You can only fast travel to towers and shrines. Luckily, there is a shrine in Zora's Domain, so you can fast travel to it once you activate it.

There's always a shrine pretty much in plain view near a town/populated location including stables. You can walk to that, so just activate it without necessarily going inside.

Been getting back into BoTW over the weekend, putting about 10 hours into it. Not played it in months on the Switch (after putting around 100 hours into the Wii U version) so I'm still near the start of the game. Just bought my house and now I'm trying to get some side quests and shrines done before heading back to Kakariko.

This time round the weapon durability hasn't annoyed me anywhere near as much, I've also found more Korok seeds (currently around mid 50's) but while I explore most places I still, don't find myself actively seeking them out. I'm also looking forward to getting to play the DLC for the first time as well, never bought it on the Wii U so I had something completely new to experience on my Switch playthrough.

This has slowly become my go-to game, although I think that's equally just as much a result of it being on the Switch than it being a quality game (which it no doubt is). The ability to pick this up and be playing in less than a minute (I normally just stick the Switch in sleep mode and dock it to charge, so when I go to play the game it's loaded up ready and waiting) is just so damn convenient. I've played it in bed, on the toilet, on the sofa whilst the wife watches her trash, in the kitchen, in the garage when I was "looking for my toolbox", it's just great.

As for the game, I'm loving it despite its flaws. Although combat plays a big part in this, I actually find the gameplay quite relaxing as most of the time I'm just travelling across the beautiful landscapes finding shrines and Kurok seeds. I tend to flat out avoid big enemies but I'm becoming quite adept at handling small bands of the vanilla enemies.
