I think that's her leg, and it's Zelda.

Of course it's in engine. It's polygonal.
I remember when SolarisXD absolutely insisted it was impossible for the game cube to do depth of field in Twilight Princess reveal trailer. And there it is in the game. Same old.

An interview with Aonuma.

http://kotaku.com/the-big-zelda-intervi ... 1592548169

He mainly talks about Hyrule Warriors but there are some Zelda U tidbits. Maybe this is the most interesting:

Schreier: I just have to slip in one question that a lot of people are wondering—Mr. Aonuma, you've talked a lot about changing traditions and shifting away from the series formulas. Can you give me one example of a tradition that people are familiar with in Zelda that you've changed in a big way for the new Zelda that you're working on for next year?

Aonuma: So you know we've talked a little bit today about the puzzle-solving element in Zelda, and how that's kinda taken a different shape in Hyrule Warriors. But I think people have come to just assume that puzzle-solving will exist in a Zelda game, and I kinda wanna change that, maybe turn it on its ear.

As a player progresses through any game, they're making choices. They're making hopefully logical choices to progress them in the game. And when I hear 'puzzle solving' I think of like moving blocks so that a door opens or something like that. But I feel like making those logical choices and taking information that you received previously and making decisions based on that can also be a sort of puzzle-solving. So I wanna kinda rethink or maybe reconstruct the idea of puzzle-solving within the Zelda universe.

Oh, and about that E3 trailer.

Aonuma wrote:About the open world though in the new Zelda game—I heard that there was some concern out there about whether or not the images that were used in the trailer were cinematics or if they were actually in-game graphics—they are indeed in-game graphics. So you saw behind me there were mountains in the background; you can actually go to those on your horse. You can actually ride out to those—I just wanted to clarify that.

I could see that being a big deal had this been released before Skyrim.

This could end up being a totally different game to Skyrim. It's still new ground for the Zelda games, which always erred on the side of the action/adventure genre than RPG anyway.

If they can tie the open world aspect with Zelda's traditionally linear story-driven approach, then there's no reason why it's new structure need be diminished by the fact that Skyrim is already out. Indeed, it is not like Skyrim wasn't doing things that PC games were doing in the 90s.

Irrespective of all the open world games about, it's a pretty monumental deal for Zelda games. A brave new world in fact.

Ride all the way out to the mountains only to get stopped going up because of a small wall that you need an item to pass. Item is on the other side of the map.

Hope the game starts you out in the middle of the field, like just waking up in the grass or something with no clear objective.

The problem is, like I said, Zelda games are quite story driven.

Even Oblivion and Skyrim had an opening mission/some plot exposition before it let you just go out into the world unhindered.

It could be like that for Zelda. If you think about Ocarina, part of the joy of seeing Hyrule Field was that you had spent a couple of hours in a dungeon/Kokori Village beforehand. Wind Waker doesn't just give your boat and the open water, and I feel you appreciate it more if you "grow" into it through the initial plot. You feel like you are heading out into the world, rather than just being in the middle of it for no reason. It gives you purpose and freedom together, rather than an open world and aimless wandering.

Likewise, with Oblivion, your emergence into the green wilds of Cyrodil was contrasted against the previous hour in a dank, dark jail.

The opening narrative moments in a scripted setting, before unleashing all the open world stuff, can do a lot to set the scene. And with Zelda, they do a lot of world-building during those parts. I would argue you need something in those opening moments, rather than just plonking you somewhere.

Looks amazing. Still, I'm remaining sceptical about the footage shown after the Twilight Princess reveal trailers, which turned out to be nothing like the game.

Sort of related.

I enjoyed the Megaman video he did but my god, this is the most ridiculous, pedantic gooseberry fool I've ever heard in a viewpoint video.

As someone who has always hated 3D Zelda games and loved the 2D ones and never been able to figure out why, I bloody love that video

Makes me want to get a link between worlds.

Although we didn't see too much in the video, I'm excited by the size of the gameworld. I hope there is scope for plenty of exploration.

I think the game will arrive for next November. Still a way off, but we're getting there!

Yeah clearly an early build as there wasn't much going on in the environments, but it's looking to have lots of potential.

2015 is shaping up very nicely. I think you're right Jawa, November; but that will probably mean that Xenoblade will shift into 2016 especially as they already said they are only "targeting" 2015. I can't handle both of those for next Xmas.
