Done just over 50 hours or so and I think the fact I've stretched it out over the past two weeks or so hasn't helped. Would probably been better if I'd condensed it a bit. I'm still loving it, but I'm getting less concerned with exploring every area thoroughly now and I'm just wanting to push on with the story a bit more. That said I'm still loving it and I'm on the path to my last Divine Beast at the Yiga Hideout. Gonna try and get all the way up to the Master Sword then go around and finish the shrines, memories and side-quests before I finally take on Ganon.

There have been a couple of times I've felt like this but the love of the world and the adventure I'm on always wins me over. I'm up to 130 hours and the sense of discovery is still just as amazing as it was during the first 20. I've not tried to mop up all the Shrines and I wouldn't really recommend doing so, but playing the way I have has gotten me up to 105 or so. I'm deliberately not going to get them all before I take on the final boss.

I play this every few days and every time I do I'm in it for hours. Just done one of the main area's and I'm on way (I think) to another, so much to see and do, currently seen something at night and I'm trying to make my way to it.

Last two divine beasts done last night. Just clearing up the missing memories, then on to Hyrule castle.

Where can I check my play time on this? It feels a lot shorter in some ways than previous Zeldas. I could go for Hyrule Castle now and am probably strong enough to beat it but I'm at the point where I feel I am purposely padding it with the side quests and shrines so that I don't finish it too quickly.

I'm interested to see how long I have put into it to compare it to TP HD which I think I got 30 hours from at a leisurely pace.

Not made progress in a couple of days and it seems it may be I have gone the wrong damn way!

Spoke to the swimming fella about meeting a dude on a bridge and ended up at a tower surrounded by loads of gooseberry fool and a lightning swimmy bastard and just died a lot.

It seems I didn't pay enough attention and have gone the wrong way and come to a tower I'm not really ready for.

I did Vah Ruta first and was pretty disappointed with it, found the whole thing easy but had a few frustrating moments where the game didn't really behave (in terms of control and responsiveness) the way I've become used to. Didn't really enjoy it at all to be honest.

Van Medoh was a lot better but again far too easy and short.

It's the first real disappointment of the game for me so far but they pale in comparison to the dungeons in the other 3D Zelda games, the bosses were equally disappointing too. It annoyed me how they had no specific weakness, or several attack routines, just a health bar. I just spammed them with arrows and the fights were over quickly and easily, such uninspired designs too.

I absolutely love the open world game design but I hope for the next Zelda game they return to a more traditional dungeon structure.

Agree with most of this (specific "dungeons" aside). I don't mind the Divine Beasts. They are not terrible. Its an interesting idea but just to me seems so weak next to proper dungeons. I'd be fine with seeing this idea come back but alongside proper dungeoning. It could replace the tear gathering in SS for example. If you showed me a picture of the bosses I don't think I could tell you which one was which.

I'm so cold on the story to. I know some will say you don't play Zelda for the story and thats fair enough but its usually strong enough to frame everything and make it interesting along the way. They have put a ton of work into the backstory and world building but from the moment you leave the GP it all seems so static. Its in dire need of a proper antagonist. Calamity Ganon is just window dressing, like a weaker version of the moon in MM. I don't really care for any of the characters either tbh. Felt more for the dead people in MM then in this. And in this I'm meant to have known them.

I got loads done over this weekend (very lazy weekend) - I got two more divine beasts done so now just have one left to do. Doing this along with some more shrines gave me enough hearts to get the master sword.. I also went through and got the last few missing memories along with the extra one so now got them all. I also found 2 more fairy fountains so have 2 out of the 3 though I think I need to get a dragon horn to use them to upgrade my champion tunic thing :shifty:. I also bought myself the house along with a bed, door and sign - which cleared me out of money but i'm hoping to get the remaining stuff next time I go on it..

I can see me dragging it out a few more days doing some more side quests and maybe some shrines but getting towards the end now I think.

Loved it though, nothing else has hooked me like this in a long time - not sure if it's due to being able to play it mobile and on TV or just that it's soo good

Once you finish it, is it game over or can you continue exploring and mop up other side quests etc..?

Yeah I think I'd be fine with that too, the Divine Beasts are a bit like extended shrines and they work nicely as a plot point but they definitely seem weak in all areas compared to a traditional Zelda dungeon.

I also agree on the story, it feels very static and can be easily ignored for the most part. There's no sense of urgency to get to Ganon and fight him and I've not really grown any attachment to the characters either, for all the criticism Skyward Sword got I think it actually did a fantastic job with the story. Girahim felt like a constant threat and I felt like I was always moving on to the next part of my quest and that I was on a really important journey, this on the other hand I've had a wonderful time exploring and playing around in the world but I actually feel quite detached from the story itself.

I don't think it's just a Zelda issue, it's a problem with open world games in general but whereas Skyward Sword really progressed the series from a story telling perspective this almost feels like a few steps back.

I still think it's an absolutely excellent game but I do feel like in responding to the criticism of Skyward Sword they've tried to take the game a little too far away from the core Zelda template.

Finally got this after getting a second hand wii u with 4 games (inc this one). Picked up a pro controller (much prefered).

What can i say that hasn't already, it might not only be the best Zelda game I've ever played, it might actually be the best game Nintendo have ever made. Its still too early for such hyperbole perhaps, but the sheer wonder in this game is incredible.

So easy to get side tracked hunting koroks, doing shrines, climbing towers, talking to NPC's clearing monster chests etc.

Does anyone know, is there a way to save fairies from being used once they are in your inventory? I'd rather keep them for legit tough fights, over them being 'wasted' in fights / falling off cliffs. I know i can find more since I've only ever found two locations with them on, but even so, they are a finite resource one must assume.

Haven't done it myself, but I'm sure I read you can add fairies to stuff you cook and it'll add a lot more hearts to your health.

Yeah, you can use them as ingredients in foods and elixirs (I think) to give a greater restorative effect. Of course you lose the safety net that they can provide when you die, but there are other things that can fill that gap.

EDIT: It's actually quite horrific to think that you can lob a fairy into a pot and boil it alive. Can't believe the Great Fairies are on board with that kind of behaviour.

Loading screen hint suggest that the fairies are just helping with the cooking/elixir making. Haven't done it yet so I don't know if it comes through when you actually do it, or if they just bounce around in the pan with the rest of the ingredients.

They swirl around the pot just above it, they don't go in the mix.

Really missing that there's (seemingly) no dungeons in this. The shrines have been stupidly easy (and ive done the motion ones) and the 2 divine beasts ive done so far have also been really easy, with me not taking a single hit on the second one. I've always though of them as being the meat to zelda games, so i'm missing them.

Sprinkling some fairy dust in them perhaps..... It make more sense than picturing Link picking wings out of his teeth I suppose.

I find it weird that you don't catch them in bottles anymore.

But I guess now they actively run away from you and you have to sneak up on them to catch them, so there is still an element of being villainous.
