You know that Lego Milly falcon I never built? It's worth £5,600!! Crikey... I think I'll keep it a little longer in the box!

Probably worth even more than that if it's new/unused.

It might get a re-release next year given it's 40 years since the films came out, and it's such a desired set.

We can only hope. (I would love to build it)

(although it would be bad for your 'investment')

In which case you have the classic Lego investor's dilemma!

1) You have something that has no actual 'value' to you it's current state. (You can't spend it or use/enjoy it)

2) If you use it, it will decrease in value

3) It would be worth something if you sold it

4) You probably won't sell it because it might increase in value!

5) See point 1.

That's hard! I find those scenarios really paralysing, I guess you have to take the plunge and either use it or sell it at some point....

For me, I bought the old Death Star last year, built it twice, now sold it for maybe £50 more than I paid - however it was re-released so second hand prices will now fall.
I tend to buy, use and re-sell. It's become a cash-neutral hobby for me, just have to pick sets I'm interested in which are likely to hold/increase value.

For five grand, I'd sell it. As much as I like Lego, it's just some plastic bricks.

Bear in mind I could wipe out the entirety of my debt, live for 2 months and go on holiday for the price of that box of plastic bricks.

The world is messed up.

If you have loans or a mortgage then I would sell it to pay off some debt. Otherwise hold on to it.

I have a bunch of records and am in a similar situation as you with them. I only ever sell them when I need a cash boost, otherwise they stay in box in the dark.

Having bought the Christmas train, it emerged that the power functions stuff you need would cost £45 separately. I also wanted extra track, bringing it up to £60...

Which makes this an absolute stone-cold bargain. :datass:

Contains the power stuff, the track, and a whole extra train.

(Fake edit: it's gone up to £70 now, but still cheap compared to buying the stuff separately.)

I'm trying to subtly convince my youngest that this is what he really wants for Christmas.

I have the Grand Emporium and Fire Brigade discontinued modular sets that I'd like to sell. Anyone interested? If not, where would you suggest I sell them? Anywhere better idea than ebay?

I reckon he does.

I think my plan is to add something Christmassy to the collection every year, to build a proper little scene around the tree.

I've sold a fair amount on e-bay without any issues (apart from the fees), but I also sold a few via gumtree - no fees, plus face to face transaction so you can't really get scammed. But you are limiting yourself to people in your local-ish area.

I already have the two you mentioned, so sorry I can't help you by buying them! If it was a greengrocer or café corner however....

I think the Battery pack and the motor came to £24 on the Lego site. I added a series Minifigure to boost the value to get a free pack of Lego and also got another free spider-man Lego pack for free too. Came to about £34 delivered with the extra minifig and postage
