I'd love to be able to afford all of that stuff. It's like a minifig scale version of miniland

Also, I had a dream last night that Lego had finally made a UCS B-Wing. But it was 550 quid :fp:

That's amazing. If I went to that exhibition I'd hide under the table until they close up for the night and then sneak out when nobody's there and play with it :shifty:

Only thing I don't really like is the roads being fixed at 90 degrees, like the old GTA.

If I won the lottery, I'd totally buy that. In kit form.

Does anyone know what that program is I've seen that allows you to build your own legos in virtual form?

Are you thinking of the Lego Digital Designer?

I just downloaded the new version, disappointingly, there's still no big Lego train wheels in there :( Or the green curvy bits from the Emerald Night.

Yeah that's the one.

Are there any other similar ones around?

I think there are, but I'm not sure where you'd look for them, unfortunately. The main advantage of the official one over any unofficial one is the ability to actually buy what you make on it.

Are there any other Lego train buyers on here?

If there are, then these might be of interest:

There's a company that's just started making 9V tracks, so if you don't really fancy buying someone's old collection off eBay, there's finally a solution

9V is also way better than the new remote controlled trains anyway, just for the batteries it saves.

There's a whole magazine devoted only to Lego trains. My mind is currently blown.

There is. I've only just realised it's free though, so I've spent the past hour or so reading some of the issues. Anyone want to try and help me design a steam train on this Lego Digital Designer thing? As you can't get the curvy bits from the Emerald Night on there, I'm having to try and make do with the slope-y bricks without resorting to the 45 degree angled bricks. Here's what I've done in the past few minutes:

Unfortunately the 1 stud square sloped bricks don't appear to be available in green, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do for the rest of it... :shifty:

I think I might've figured out how to do the boiler properly! \o/

Here's a handy diagram made by someone else:

I just need to try and figure out what it means. Any advice?

How do you mean? Get the bits shown in the picture and assemble them as shown. They're fairly small pieces though, so it's going to be quite a bit smaller than the Emerald Night.

It's taken me ages to figure out how to do the front end, though (using a different picture):

I've got that down to mean this:

But I can't fit the lamp thing in between the blocks in the Digital Designer.

I was wondering how you'd go about extending it for a full boiler earlier, then I realised that you can just add more of those bricks with the studs on the side to the free studs on the 2x3 flat brick :shifty: :fp:

I'm hoping it'll end up being of a similar size to the old "My Own Train" models, but a bit more professional looking. Still trying to do a model from the picture in the OP, y'see.

This thing:

There's no green cheese bricks in the LDD, either, so I'll need to pick those up from 1001bricks or something.

So, current progress after about an hour or so:

Image

This takes ages :(

Think it's too long at the moment, and I've got no idea how to go about building the water tanks. Do I build up from the baseplate I still need to put in, or do I build outwards from the boiler with more of those studs on the side bricks? SO MANY QUESTIONS.

I'd mount it on a baseplate and work up from there. If it were an actual Lego model it'd probably have some really strange sort of construction that weaves the bits of the side tanks into the boiler itself, making it rock solid. You might be able to come up with something like that as you go forward.

Yeah, think I might start again tomorrow from the ground up. Just wanted to get the boiler design sorted first, it's been bugging me all week.

According to the LDD, it'll currently set me back £16.66. I can see this being rather expensive in the end... :(

An artist has created a 22ft model of the USS warship Intrepid using 250,000 pieces of Lego - taking thousands of hours and a whole year to complete.

Ed Diment built the model, which weighs almost 40st (249kg), on board the Intrepid, which is now a museum and docked in New York.

The warship, which launched in April 1943, and was decommissioned in March 1974.

Mr Diment, who has been building models with Lego since the age of three, explained how he began the huge task of building the warship, which has been valued at more than £30,000 ($50,000).

Awesome, always amazed when people can make those giant super detailed models. Theres some dutch guy who makes replica trucks, the detail is stunning but its late and im too lazy to find a link.

IIRC I once saw pics of some kid who made a giant replica (about 1.5x1.5 meters) of Scrooge McDuck's money deposit.

Although it might've not been Lego... :shifty:
