I was having a horrible run with Prolific where I kept getting rejected submissions. Some of these things are put together by Oxford and Cambridge intelligentsia types and can be extremely difficult. For me memory challenges, particularly involving numbers, I find a complete nightmare. The most recent one being, press a key every time the same number repeats every 2 numbers as they flash up on screen. So for example, if: 9, 5, 4, 9, 2, 4 came up, I had to press Up for 9 and 4. So that's me strawberry floated. My brain simply cannot, under any circumstances, function in that particular manner. But they can't grasp that concept over there so think I'm just randomly hitting keys.

A lot of the studies are overprescribed too, so you'd nab one and then open it up to be greeted with a 'study full' message.

Not a beer money suggestion but this seemed the best place to ask. I have used PayPal for 2 transactions over the weekend, looking at my online banking I can see both amounts as pending which is fine but each one also has a £1 fee. Are they charging for transactions now?

I’ve never seen that - that would be a huge change that I imagine would have had major press.

It’s not a pending charge is it? I’ve had things before and PayPal have put 0.99p down as a hold I think if that makes sense

I incorporate PayPal or more specifically Braintree which does similar things. Yes, it's a pre-authorisation to go through the 3D Secure 2.0 stage with your bank and then they will take the actual amount at despatch and drop the pre-authorisation charge. As this happened over the weekend, usually the pre-authorisation amount will be dropped after 1-2 banking days, whatever that means (it depends on who is involved).

I think they're required to do this to temporarily hold your card data in case you cancel and then charge it at a later date. Instead of charging you before despatching thing / completion of their obligations.

Remember there's an entire global infrastructure around this on the VISA/Mastercard network, banks AND PayPal which is just a man in the middle.

I used my main current account when I briefly flirted with cryptocurrency a couple of years ago, via Coinbase. Seemed to all go through without any issues. Although I can't remember which bank I was with at the time, as I swap around them so often.
